A lasting memorial is one of the most meaningful ways to honour and remember a loved one. Whether you are selecting a monument, flat marker, upright headstone, cremation memorial, bench, or inscription, Cornerstone Funeral Home is here to guide you every step of the way.

Choosing a monument can feel overwhelming, especially during a difficult time. We work closely with families to help create a memorial that reflects the life, personality, faith, values, and legacy of the person being remembered.

  • Cemetery regulations and requirements

Types of Memorials

Upright Headstones

Traditional upright monuments are available in a variety of sizes, shapes, colours, and finishes. These may be selected for a single individual, a couple, or an entire family.

Flat Markers

Also known as grass markers or flush markers, these lie level with the ground and are often required in certain cemeteries.

Pillow Monuments

A slant monument provides the appearance of an upright stone while remaining lower to the ground.

Companion & Family Monuments

These memorials are designed for spouses or multiple family members and may include matching markers or a larger central monument.

Cremation Memorials

Families who choose cremation may still wish to have a permanent place to visit and remember. Options include cremation benches, niche plaques, small monuments, and memorial gardens.

Benches & Specialty Memorials

Memorial benches, heart-shaped stones, angel monuments, and specialty designs may be selected to reflect a loved one's unique personality.

Choosing an Inscription

Families often struggle with what to say on a monument. Consider including examples such as:

Common Inscriptions

  • Forever in our hearts
  • Beloved husband, wife, father, mother, daughter, son
  • Gone but never forgotten
  • Always loved, always remembered
  • Together forever

Faith-Based Inscriptions

  • The Lord is my shepherd
  • Safe in the arms of Jesus
  • Until we meet again
  • Well done, good and faithful servant

Personalized Inscriptions

Encourage families to include:

  • A favourite quote
  • A nickname
  • Hobbies or passions
  • A line from a song or poem
  • A meaningful scripture verse

Frequently Asked Questions

When should we choose a monument?
Most families select a monument within the first several months following a death, although there is no required timeline. However, each cemetery has its own requirements — we can help walk you through these complexities.
Can we pre-arrange and/or pre-purchase a monument?
Yes. Families are welcome to pre-arrange and pre-purchase a monument in advance so that their wishes are known and the selection is taken care of ahead of time. In these cases, the monument would be purchased at today's pricing and placed in the cemetery at the time of arrangement. Any inscription details, including dates and additional engraving, would then be completed at the time of need, along with any applicable inscription charges. If you have any questions about how this works or what options are available, please contact Cornerstone Funeral Home and we will be happy to guide you through the process.
How long does it take?
Depending on the monument and season, completion and installation can take several weeks to several months.
Do cemeteries have different rules?
Yes. Each cemetery has specific requirements regarding size, style, material, and installation. We help coordinate with the cemetery to ensure everything meets their guidelines.
Can an existing monument be updated?
Often, yes. Additional inscriptions, names, dates, and matching markers can frequently be added to an existing memorial.
