MRS. THELMA WONG, adored and beloved wife of Mr. Robert Wong of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the age of 57 years after a courageous battle with cancer.
Thelma was a loving mother to her daughters, Julie of Calgary and Tracy of Lethbridge. She is survived by her father, Alec Henderson of Methven, Scotland; brothers, Barry (Betty) of Auckland, New Zealand, Jim (Marjorie) of Blairgowrie, Scotland, Albert (Norman) of Wales; and sister, Mabel of Perth, Scotland.
Thelma was born in Bankfoot, Scotland on October 17, 1952. She loved the Scottish countryside and missed it dearly (as well as the fish and chips). She was lucky to meet the love of her life in Perth, Scotland, where they soon married. Thelma and Robert immigrated to Canada in 1975, after the birth of their first child, Julie. She was surprised and disappointed, after arriving in Canada, that their first house was not a log cabin. After living in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, Thelma and her family moved to Lethbridge, bringing with them a new addition, a second daughter. Thelma was again surprised when she arrived to the prairies, with not a tree in sight.
She maintained a strong connection with her family in the UK through yearly visits and Coronation Street. Thelma was a wonderful, caring, and devoted mother and wife. She lived for her family, as they did for her. She was a magnificent friend, and was instantly loved by those who were lucky enough to meet her.
Thelma’s beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and sense of humour brought joy to her friends and family. She will be so dearly missed.
A Private Family Service will be held.
