Woronuk, William

July 17, 2025

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our dearest husband, dad, and papa, WILLIAM “BILL” (SONNY) WORONUK on Thursday, July 17th, 2025. He passed at the age of 92 surrounded by family at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, AB.

Born in Prince Albert, SK on December 25, 1932, Dad, “Sonny” was an only child due to the unfortunate passing of his mother when he was a child. He was part of a very large extended Ukrainian family and enjoyed spending time with them on the family homestead and at various family celebrations over the years.

Dad loved the great outdoors including hunting, fishing, berry and mushroom picking, gardening, woodworking with diamond willow, camping—all of it! We had the best of times camping, and even living for a short time, at Anglin Lake, SK throughout the years.

Dad was a people person. He loved ALL people, and treated everyone like an old friend. He talked to everyone and loved sharing stories and his unique sense of humour. He would literally give the shirt off of his back to anyone who needed it.

Dad was a hardworking man with the most admirable work ethic. He worked for CP Rail in many small towns as a relief telegraph operator in his younger years, later going back to PA to work for his dad as a taxi driver for “Bill’s Taxi.” For the greater part of his working years, he worked at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in PA, where he not only survived two hostage takings, but went back to work the very next morning both times. He enjoyed telling people in his retirement years that he “did 30 years in a federal penitentiary”— we always had to jump in and clarify that he had worked there!

Dad met the love of his life in 1964 while driving taxi. His beautiful Audrey “Dora” was walking down the street in PA one afternoon when he pulled over to offer her a ride home from work. A few short months later in April 1965, they were married in a small candle lit service. While Mom was 20 minutes late for the cer-emony, a fact which dad never let her forget, they had the most loving and near perfect marriage! They started their family in 1969 with the birth of their son Keon, followed by their daughters Arnelle and Revena in 1972. Through the years they were the best of friends and were always joined at the hip, enjoying the good times and allowing the hardships in life to bring them closer together.

Dad was, above all, a family man. He worked tirelessly so we could experience and enjoy all that life had to offer. He loved his wife, his kids, and grandkids with-out measure or condition, and we all felt that love in everything he did. We will be forever grateful for the time we had and the memories we shared, and his pres-ence in our lives will be deeply missed.

Left to mourn Dads passing is his loving wife of 60 years, Audrey (née McQuarrie) Woronuk, son Keon Woronuk, daughter Arnelle (James) Wishnowski, his grand-children: Cydney St. Denis, Kiera Wishnowski, Marisa Wishnowski, and Caiah St.Denis, as well as many other extended family members.

He was predeceased by his parents William Sr and Annie (nee Klovanik) Woronuk, his father and mother-in-law Vern and Mabel (née Wright) McQuarrie, and his be-loved daughter Revena Woronuk St.Denis, along with numerous special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

At Bill’s request, no formal Funeral Service will be held.
