Wiens, Andrew Phillip

Date of Service: October 15, 2021

ANDREW PHILLIP WIENS, of Lethbridge, passed away suddenly at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the age of 60 years.

ANDREW "ANDY" PHILLIP WIENS left this earth on October 10, 2021. His very sudden passing is great for him, but left many of us shocked. His sins forgiven-put on Christ, and exchanged; being justified and clothed in Christ's righteousness, he lives on with his Creator for all eternity. Andy was baptized as a believer as an adult by Ed Fischer.

Andy was born August 9, 1961, to parents Helen and Abe Wiens. Andy was raised near Lomond, Alberta and attended grades 1 to 12 in Lomond. He then went to Bethany Bible School in Hepburn, Saskatchewan. When he returned, he purchased two quarters of land and built a small feedlot. Economic times of the 80's with high interest rates for borrowed money, low commodity prices and drought as severe as we just experienced in 2021 made it impossible for Andy's operations to survive. Andy struggled terribly having to face people he owed money to, but could not repay them, He was forced off his land and his collateral taken away, and he worked for others to make his living.

There is a saying: "you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy". Well Andy so so much loved being on the farm and worked many hours on the Wiens family farm and others as well. Andy also loved the cattle work. He raised 4-H steers as a high school student, and was employed for many years at Picture Butte Auctions, learning much about cattle handling. It was a pleasure to work cattle with him as his soft hand approach often accomplished more than a full on approach practiced by others.

In later years, he worked for Ernie who sold steel buildings to many farms in Western Canada. Andy drove a crazy amount of miles taking Ernie to all his clients and Ernie became a second dad to Andy. Ernie passed away suddenly, but through some of the contacts, Andy found employment on farms.

Andy is survived by his siblings, Joyce (Dennis), Tim (Lue), David (Shirley), Tom, and Marilyn (John); many dearly loved nieces and nephews and lately grand nieces and nephews. He counted every one of them as precious.

He was predeceased by both of his parents, Abram and Helen, and his two brothers, Abram and Peter.

What may be missed the most is his kind heart and warm smile that made this world a better place.
