Wheeldon, Vera Inez

On Monday, February 23, 2015 VERA INEZ WHEELDON (NEE TRATHEN) passed away peacefully at the age of 92.
She is survived by her son Darryl, daughters Dorothy (Barry), Barb (John), daughter-in-law Pauline, grandchildren Brenna (Scott), Jim (Tanya), Sean, Jillian (Rob), Kerri (Fran), Kaitlin, Emily (Jesse), Casey, great-grandchildren Chloyee, Riley, Kael, Seth, Duncan and Analyse.
Vera was predeceased by her husband Robin, son Ross and daughter-in-law Kathy. She was the last of her family, having been predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.
Vera was raised near Onoway, AB. After high school she went to Bralorne, BC to join her sisters where she worked in the telephone office until the gold mine closed. She then went to Vancouver and worked at Woodward's, where some lifelong friendships were made. At the end of WWII, Vera married Albert Allsop and they settled in Lethbridge to raise their family.
Vera was an independent, optimistic woman, caring mother, loving grandmother and wife. She married Robin Wheeldon in 1975 and began the next phase of her fulfilling life. Bowling was her passion for a few years and she was very proud of being on the team that won a Ladies Alberta Championship. Golf was another of her pleasures. She and Robin spent many seasons travelling to Magrath to play the golf course. Vera enjoyed camping and liked nothing more than to pick up a few grandkids in the motor home to embark on a road trip - short or long - and spend time visiting with family and friends around a camp fire. She could also be found at home on the back deck enjoying the birds and a late afternoon glass of wine. She could tell and appreciate a good joke, had a quick wit and a passion for life. She will be dearly missed.
Thanks to the staff at Fairmont Extendicare for their care and kindness during the last three years. Many thanks to John for his attention, kindness and friendship. Cremation has taken place. At Vera's request there will be no service.
