MR. JOSEPH WESKO, beloved husband to Mrs. Mary Wesko, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Saturday, December 25, 2010 at the age of 88 years. Beside his loving wife Mary, he is survived by his children; Margaret (Ron) King of Bon Accord, AB, Maureen (Jim) Stegen of Lethbridge, Paddy (Gary) Taje of Blairmore, AB, and Kevin (Karen) Wesko of Lethbridge, grandchildren; Erin (Paul) Coupland, Elizabeth (Jeff) Bettger, Jon (Michelle) Stegen, Erik and Sean Taje, Sydney and Blair Wesko, great grandchildren; Maddie and Sophie Coupland, Kate Stegen and Marley, Jayne and Quinn Bettger as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Wesko, grandchildren Karen Taje and Jason Stegen, brothers Bill, Mike, John, Walter and Steve and sisters Stella Sturko and Ann Morton. Joe was born on March 9, 1922 in Hardieville, Alberta. In 1941, Joe joined the Royal Canadian Artillary 112th Battery and served in England, France, Holland and Germany. In England he met Mary Kane, the love of his life and they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on January 13, 2011. Joe returned home to Canada in March 1946 and found work in the coal mines in the Crowsnest Pass area, next he drove truck on short hauls. He retired in 1985 from the Alberta Government Services where he worked for 18 years. Joe had a deep faith and was very active in the Knights of Columbus, Council #1490 and 4th Degree, Father Lacombe Assembly #0007, where he served as Commander for many years. He was also very active in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 as part of the Gabriel’s Angels. Joe enjoyed fishing, camping, Hurricanes hockey, gardening and travelling to Ireland. A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. with Maureen Condon Horon, officiating. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH 604 - 13 Street North on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Darek Zarebski, S.D.S, Celebrant. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. No flowers by family request.
