WERNICK, PHYLLIS CATHERINE

PHYLLIS CATHERINE WERNICK (nee Oborne) best friend and wife of Leslie Wernick, passed away quietly on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the age of 96 years. Phyllis was born, November 29, 1915 to Walter and Minnie Oborne, raised and educated in Lethbridge along with her three sisters Joan Murfin, Jean May and Hazel Leys. Phyllis obtained her teaching certificate from Normal College in 1939. She was the first teacher in Lethbridge to receive her Bachelor of Education Degree in 1950. She taught in the Lethbridge District for 33 years. The last 17 years at Hamilton Junior High teaching science. Phyllis enjoyed travelling, reading, sewing and needle work. The walls of her home were covered with pictures she had done. Phyllis is survived by her husband Leslie and her sister Jean May, her in-laws Phyllis and George King, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and her two sisters Joan and Hazel. No Memorial Service is planned at this time.
