Vic was born in Lethbridge, Alberta and raised on the family farm in Warner, AB. He passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital of kidney failure and is at peace now with his Springers, Bailey and Charlie. 

In the days leading up to his passing, at his request, close friends and family were by his side telling many stories of hunting, fishing and the many treasured memories they had with Vic. 

Vic was employed with AFSC for 31 years as a crop insurance adjuster.  This took him on the road for many years where he could both work and enjoy the outdoors he loved. With his humble demeanor and his understanding of a farmers life he took his job to heart.  He was a good role model for the young adjusters and he enjoyed training them.  He had a lasting impression on those he worked with.  

Vic was an avid outdoorsman with such a passion for a good hunt and fishing for Walleye. His favorite teams (when they were winning) were the Calgary Flames and the Stampeders. 

In his earlier years he was involved in anything to do with his love of the outdoors.  This included, Ducks Unlimited, Fish & Wildlife, 4H, teaching hunter education and guiding. 

He lived such a full life of hunting trips, fishing trips and travelling.  His travels and hunting took him to New Zealand, Fiji, Mexico, Hawaii, Wyoming, Labrador, the Yukon, and many remote areas and lakes in Alberta and Saskatchewan and BC.  He always reminisced about his many his adventures.  His favorite was the annual whitetail hunts at the OHara Ranch in Saskatchewan.  It was never just about the hunt, he treasured these moments with his family and friends. 

Shelley met Vic in 2004 and together with friends and family they built "The Werk Shop" and trophy room (man cave) at their home in Coaldale.  He loved our big yard and through the years we created the haven we loved to come home to after a day at work. He was so talented and creative and could take on any project from house renovations, woodworking, mechanics and welding. One of his latest big projects was restoring an old John Deer snowmobile, when it was finished, took it for a rip in the schoolyard behind the shop.  Vic was rarely idle, always willing to help anyone out and planning the next project whether it was renos on the house, woodworking or mechanical, always the go to guy if you needed advice, rebuilt or repaired he was always happy to help out.

Rest in Peace now Vic knowing you were so loved and appreciated.

He is survived by his partner Shelley Flegel, her children and grandchildren Jessica, Tracy, Joline & Paxton Dunsmore, Sheldon & Ellie Flegel his stepdaughter Carri-Ann and her children, Hayden and Dane Hansen. stepson Jasen Hansen and his children Barret and Kage.  Shelley's parents Ron & Lynne Pendergast, sister-in-Laws Connie & Perry Elliott and Tammy and Grant Lacombe and their families.

Brother Larry Werk, wife Brenda, Niece Taylor & Scott Wickwire and children Stevie and Rhett.  His Nephew Tye Werk and partner Dale. Nephew Marty, Roberta and Eve O'Donnell.  Niece Adena & Keith Heppler, Dillon, Holden and Zac. His niece BJ Sommerset and her daughter Chantelle, Niece Michelle Werk and Nephew Jeff Werk. 

He is also survived by his lifelong friends Len Mueller and family and Todd Shaffer and family. 

Vic was predeceased by his father Alfred Reinhart Werk, his mother Betty Jean Morris. Sisters Vicky O'Donnell and Dianne Law and his brother Bradley Werk. 

A special heartfelt thankyou to Dr. Morely Wong and nurses at the Kidney Clinic, especially making sure he could  go and enjoy his final trip to the Yukon, that meant the world to him.  

Thank you to the compassionate nurses and doctors in ICU and 4C who went above and beyond respecting Vic's wishes and ensuring his comfort until his passing.
