BILL VOGT, beloved husband of the late Eleanora, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

BILL VOGT, beloved husband of the late Eleanora, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

Bill will be profoundly missed by his five children and their families: Grant (Echo) Vogt; Greg (Elaine) Vogt; Terry (Pam) Vogt; Suzanne (Darren) McIntosh; Sherryl (Ed) Loman and his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren: Lisa (Mark) Potvin (Amber & Ryan, Aiden, Oliver); Tiger (Tyler) Vogt, Errol Vogt; Hillary (Ali & Naveed) Norouzi; Colleen (Brandon & Brielle) Chow; Sheena (Jason & Eloise) LeMoine; Kyle (Cortney) Vogt; Samara (Jordan) McIntosh; Nikki (Dayton) McIntosh; Justin (Ashley) Loman; Jocelyn (Frank & Sam) West and Luke Loman as well as his special nephew Loren (Janice & Jenna) Montgomery.

Bill was predeceased by his parents Peter & Pauline Vogt, his sister Tena, and brothers Hank, Peter, Alex, Andrew and Victor.

Bill Vogt was born in Rush Lake, Saskatchewan on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1925. The family moved to Chin, Alberta in 1931 and to the Sunnyside area a year later. He attended grades 1-9 at the Crystal Lake School near Lethbridge, and grades 10 & 11 at Hardieville School.

After graduating, Bill worked at the Galt No. 8 Coal Mine, and briefly in construction.

Bill and Eleanora married in 1948 and moved to Picture Butte in 1951. Bill worked for a welder until he opened his own shop (Bill's Welding) in 1955.

Over the next 62 years, Picture Butte was central to Bill's life. He served on town council, the county school board, was President of the Fish and Game Association, President of the Piyami Archers, Treasurer of Trinity United Church, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Elks Club, drove bus for seniors and school trips and was Fire Chief for more than 30 years.

In 1994, he was recognized as Picture Butte's Citizen of the Year, and only weeks before his passing was honoured by the Fish and Game Association with a lifetime membership.

Bill, who was often seen patrolling town in his Black Widow, enjoyed fishing, camping, and painting and loved to share those passions with his grandchildren.

He was a regular on coffee row, where he closely followed community activities and enjoyed the stories and fellowship of his close friends.

A Memorial Celebration will be held at the PICTURE BUTTE HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM, 401 Rogers Avenue South, Picture Butte, Alberta, on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at 2:00 P.M.

We will "bush for coffee!!"

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Picture Butte Fire Fighters Association or the Picture Butte Fish and Game Association.

To Bill's family; We are so sorry to hear of Bills passing. He really was one of the most visible, best known citizens in Picture Butte, whether it was coffee row, or riding around in black widow, you always knew if you needed anything you could talk to him, and get the answer you needed..maybe not always what you wanted, but definitely what you needed! It's going to be odd without him, his presence will be missed for many years to come, but we will all have our memories of him to fall back on. I hope it helps to ease the sorrow a bit to know how loved and respected Bill was, and that you don't grieve alone for his passing, but that many hearts are with you, and many memories of him will be shared for years to come.

Terry and all, we are so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was our adopted grandad when we lived in Picture Butte. He was a good buddy to have around and was always willing to do an odd welding job in trade for cinnamon buns. I really enjoyed all his stories of the fire crew and the driving tricks he taught me. Best wishes from Tom and Jeannette in Regina.

Sherryl and Family, I was sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I think Eddy captured the memories of your Dad for many of us the best from his Facebook post. I'm sorry that I can't be there this weekend for the celebration. I'll be thinking of you, your family and the good memories that will be shared.

Lorne Zmeko, February 17, 2017

Terry, and all of Bill's family, I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. I first met Bill at coffee row, when I worked at Lee's Palace. Though I have forgotten his cup number, I'll never forget his good humour! I would see him sometimes years later at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery when I worked there, and we would share another laugh or two. While I am unable to attend Bill's memorial, please know I am there in spirit.
