She leaves to mourn her sisters Loretta La Valley and Louise Anderson, her brother Edward and sisters- in- law, Margaret, Dorothy and Dena Smith. Violette was predeceased by husband Peter, parents Herman and Stella, brothers Leon and Floyd, daughter Lorainne, son Alan and his wife Janine, son in law Carl Horak, granddaughter Susan, nieces Valerie and Deanna as well as many brother and sisters- in- law. Eldest daughter of Stella and Herman Smith, Violette was born in Burdett, 1917. After completing high school in Coaldale, she went on to attend college in Pincher Creek. She and Peter were married in November 1939 and together they raised a family of nine children on a farm near Wilson Siding. Violette’s career plan always was to be a wife and mother. For her and Peter, life wasn’t about money or big houses or trips to foreign lands; it was faith and family that remained top priorities throughout their lives. Both were happiest when surrounded by ’their kids’, hosting corn roasts, playing bridge or cooking for large gatherings at the farm. The family wishes to express profound gratitude for the care she received from all the staff at Extendicare. Relatives and friends are invited to a vigil prayer service at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12th Ave. South, Lethbridge on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 7:00 P.M.
