Vince was a mentor, role-model, and visionary school vice-principal when I began teaching at St. Patrick's School in 1984. He was instrumental in my survival as a rookie and his help and great patience were invaluable.
In 1995 I transferred to St. Martin de Porres School where Vince was principal and I was, again, blessed to work with and for him.
Vince lead by example and was a detail-oriented person who not only had ideas on how to make a good school even better but put in the work to make the ideas a reality. For example his tireless work towards countless school timetables, staff meetings and school budgets helped so many. And that doesn't even begin to mention the number of discipline and other issues he dealt with so well - maintaining the dignity of all involved.
Vince was a great person, a really wise listener who would give candid opinions and he had a super sense of humour. He saw the best in people - students, staff and parents.
I count myself very fortunate to have worked with him, learned from him, played sports with him too, shared many social times with a beverage, and to have had many laughs along the way.
I wish Mary, Trevor and Sheree - as well as the extended family - my sincere condolences. Until we meet again Vince may you be wrapped in the arms of the angels!

Mr. Ackerman was my grade 5 teacher in 1976/77. He was always happy. Hung out with students at lunch too. He was born to be a great teacher. AND I was the pitcher that took the line drive in my face from his bat. Lololol. Take care, breathe and let your memories fill you. ❤️

You know those coffee mugs that say, 'World's Greatest Dad'? Every dad has one. I'm sure there are great dads out there, but in my case, that cup rang true. He nutured Trevor and I and we knew we were loved every day. He was one of the happiest people I'd have the privilege of being around. Everyone liked him, he could start a conversation with anyone. The void in my heart is expansive and I'm not sure if it will ever heal. All I know for certain is that he now remembers me again.

Mary, Trevor, Sheree and family, Sharon and I offer our deepest condolences to you on Vince's passing. He was a friend and colleague who we enjoyed working and socializing with. We met Vince at St. Pat's and our friendship continued over our many years at Red Deer Catholic Schools. Vince was always ready to offer a helping hand whether at school covering classes or at home when it was moving day! We fondly remember the staff soirees Vince and Mary hosted at their acreage west of Red Deer. We had the good fortune of reconnecting with Vince after we moved to Leduc as he did contract work for STAR Catholic Schools. We shared many end of day debriefs over a rum when Vince stayed at our house while he worked in Leduc. May great memories and the promise of eternal life bring you peace.

I am so sad to hear of Mr. Ackerman's passing. He was my teacher at St. Pat's in Red Deer in the early 80's. He had a way of making learning fun, even Science class. He was the teacher that everyone greatly respected but at the same time, we could have fun. He was definitely one of my favorites.

I offer my condolences to Mary and family on Vince’s passing. As others have noted Vince also welcomed me to Red Deer as a principal moving down from Fort McMurray. While I was not a brand new administrator, Vince took the time to share with me the Routines/procedures for St Martin’s . He was moving over to Maryview and I was to be the new principal at St. Martin’s. He was always up for phone call or a conversation on district procedures and expectations. Later once I had year unde4 my best Vince continued to offer me time and company when needed. I met his daughter in law at an international student recruitment fair in Brazil and so when we met he would update on her progress and life. I know he was proud of her.
Vince was a good ol Sask boy who loved the Riders, tell stories and enjoy as laugh.
May the angels guide you safely to your new home.

My first memories of Vince go back to our years of teaching together at St. Thomas Aquinas. I was a first year teacher, just out of university and even though Vince had only been teaching himself for 2 or 3 years, he took me under his wing. Our classrooms were next door to each other and I could count on Vince to always be there, at the door, with a smile and positive words or advice, whatever he felt was needed. He was a kind and caring person and will be missed.

I met Vince over 40 years ago when I first came to Red Deer. He was my vice principal at Saint Patrick’s School, and soon became my friend.
I remember him as a colleague who would provide me with sound advice and support at all times.
I remember him helping me repair my beat up Monte Carlo on a cold Alberta fall night at his acreage just outside the city.
I remember going on golf road trips and overnight fishing trips with him and some of the staff during the summer months. And yes, we did play golf, and actually caught a few fish.
I remember Vince being in charge of computers in the early eighties and showing me a new computer storage device called a “hard drive”. He claimed (and I agreed) that we will no longer need anymore computer storage devices for the foreseeable future. It was 20 MB.
I miss Vince, but will always retain fond memories of him.

Ads his brother-in-law, I have many memories of our visits back and forth over the years. Vince was always kind to my family and myself. I know he will be greatly missed by Mary, Trevor, Sherry and his grandchildren and in-laws. I believe he touched many lives over the years as a teacher and school administrator.
A few years ago I was watching hockey on TV and broadcaster Ron Maclean mentioned that he had watched the final game of the 1972 Canada-Russia series in his classroom in Camrose, Alberta. "Mr. Ackerman brought a TV into our classroom and we watched the whole game." Certainly Vince made an impression on the young hockey fan!

Vince will always hold a soft spot in my heart as I think of all the years that our families have been friends. We got to know him not only as a friend but as an educator and an administrator. I was fortunate to work under his guidance and looked so forward to his comments and that eternal smile. Sports also bound our men together and that just grew over the years as I know how Ken enjoyed his company! Rest in God’s Peace dear Vince

I was saddened to hear of Vince‘s passing. We enjoyed having Vince in our program at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization. He was such a character. Everyone enjoyed his company and his positive attitude always. It was a pleasure to get to know him and share the afternoon with him. My sympathies to you, Mary, and your family.

Mr. Ackerman will be remembered for his desire to constantly challenge all of us. He exhibited such enjoyment and pride in teaching his students including his own son, Trevor. We will never forgot the lessons Mr. Ackerman taught us!

Mr.Ackerman will always be a cherished member of my family. He was not only an educator to me but one of my best friend’s father and a father figure to me as well. He and Mrs. Ackerman have always made me feel apart of their family and for that I will forever be grateful. He was truly a great man that will live in our hearts forever. Until we see each other again Mr. Ackerman, rest in peace.

To me Vince will always be Mr. Ackerman but not so much time in his office being disciplined but hanging out with Trevor. I haven’t seen him since we left Canada in 1989 but all my memories were fond. Rest in Peace Mr. A !!!
