MR. VICTOR RUDE, beloved husband of Mrs. Fran Rude, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the age of 76 years. He was surrounded with love by his family and guided into the arms of the Lord by Reverend James Robinson at his side. Vic is survived by his wife Fran, children; Montgomery Gerald Rude of Medicine Hat, Grant Anthony (Patti) Rude of Edmonton and Donna (Michael) Gerlinsky of Lethbridge, grandchildren; Carling Gerlinsky, Max Rude and Lisa Rude and brother Roger (Irene) Rude of Ft. Qu’appelle, Saskatchewan. He is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harold and Margaret Rude, brother Dale Rude and granddaughter Brittany Jade Gerlinsky. Vic was born on August 13, 1931 at Lake Alma, Saskatchewan. He served in the Air Force for two years, then worked briefly as a radio engineer. He entered the first Air Traffic Controller program in Canada in 1955 and spent 33 years working as an Air Traffic Controller, working first in Goose Bay, Labrador, assisting planes crossing the Atlantic, then 29 years at the Lethbridge Airport, retiring in 1988. He was passionate about flying and owned two airplanes during his lifetime. He went ocean sailing in Hawaii in 1975 and from then on he was hooked on boats, both hobbies shared by his wife Fran. They purchased an ocean sailing yacht in 1977 and spent 14 summers sailing it on Flathead Lake in Montana. After purchasing land on the Flathead, his interest turned to cabin cruisers. Vic also loved to travel with his wife, particularly to warm climates. They took several winter cruises in the Caribbean and Mexico and frequently visited Hawaii. After retirement, they became snowbirds, spending winters at their home in Indio, California, regularly playing golf, another activity which Vic greatly enjoyed. He also loved music, live theatre, art, history, trains, cars and his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders football team. He wanted to live long enough to see ’the Riders’ win another Grey Cup, and in 2007, got his wish. Vic was a quiet, gentle unassuming man, who lived life to its fullest, had a wonderful, dry sense of humour and was admired for never saying an unkind word about anyone. He will forever be missed by his wife, family and close friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Haberman of the Campbell Clinic and the wonderful nursing staff at the Regional Hospital for their compassionate care, attention and support during such a difficult time. Also thanks to the staff at the Edith Cavell Care Centre where Vic resided for four years and to Connie Schipper and the Lethbridge Alzheimer’s Society for the guidance given during Vic’s illness. Particular thanks is given to Reverend James Robinson who gave Vic and the family such a loving, warm and spiritual environment for Vic’s passing. There will be a private family service at a later date. Friends who wish to pay their respects and share memories will be welcomed at a come and go reception at the Rude family home, 2109 - 17th Avenue South, Lethbridge on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, 426 - 5th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 4E8.
