Psalm 145:3-5 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
TEUNTJE (TEUNY) VELDMAN, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend went home to her Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at the age of 83. Teuny was born in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, on October 30, 1937. She was one of 9 children with 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Teuny went to school in Holland and then worked in an office building for 11 years until coming to Canada to visit her aunt and cousins in 1963. There she met her dearly beloved Klaas, who she married on April 2, 1964. Her remaining years were spent in faithful service to her Lord, her family, her church and her community.
Above all else, Teuny was known for her love of her precious Saviour. She spent much of her time reading her Bible and immersing herself in the study of the Reformed doctrines that she held dear. Her whole family knew that they were covered in her daily prayers, but they also knew she dedicated herself to praying for the lonely, the sick, the lost and missionaries by name. This translated into a life of service that included visiting the sick, the lonely and the elderly in her church as well as volunteering in various ways. Teuny treasured her family immensely, showing her love in countless ways to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each one knew for certain that they were special to her and they will miss her greatly. Although she left Holland in 1964, she maintained a close relationship with her dear siblings there through visits, letters, phone calls and video calls. Teuny enjoyed time spent with family and friends playing games, telling stories and sharing jokes. She was a vibrant lady with a great love for life. However, she also fully believed that "to live is Christ, and to die is gain." (Phil 1:21) She had full assurance in the promises of her Lord and Saviour.
Teuny was preceded in death by her loving husband Klaas Veldman, her precious grandson Nicholas, her parents Gerrit and Antje Voordendag, her parents-in-law Egbert and Grietje Veldman, brothers and sisters in-law Adriaan van der Klein, Bert Helsloot, Bruina Veldman, Hendrik and Wiek Veldman, Jan and Wimke Veldman, Frits and Grietje Visser, Bruin and Annie Veldman, Gerrit and Corrie Veldman, Harry Slagter, Derk Veldman, Ben and Jean Hendriks and close friend and cousin-in-law Herman Scheffer.
Teuny is survived by four children: Grace (Stan) Konynenbelt, Anne (Duane) Konynenbelt, Edgar (Elaine) Veldman and Gerald (Nicole) Veldman; twelve grandchildren: Alex (Contessa) Konynenbelt, Trevor (Julie) Konynenbelt, Danielle (David) Jensen, Rebecca (Dylan) Van Dyk, Stephanie (Matt) Dykstra, Davis (Anna) Konynenbelt, Kenton (Dani) Veldman, Hannah (Devin) Eekhoff, Evan (Brynelle) Veldman, Christian Veldman, Brittany Veldman and Caitlyn Veldman; and eight great grandchildren: Hudson Jensen, Sophia, Ava-Lynn, Levi and Lily Konynenbelt, Mayelle and Adaya Van Dyk and Quinn Dykstra. Teuny is also survived by her dear friend and cousin Riet Scheffer, brother and sisters-in-law Harm and Henny Veldman and Femmie Slagter and her beloved siblings in the Netherlands: Karel Voordendag, Jan (Mini) Voordendag, Jany Voordendag, Willy van der Klein, Riet Helsloot, Bas (Riet) Voordendag, Tine Voordendag and Leny (Ries) Euser along with all of her nephews, nieces and cousins both in Canada and in the Netherlands.
In lieu of flowers in memory of Teuny, donations may be made to Mid America Reformed Seminary (www.midamerica.edu).
