WILHELMINA HENRICA RESINA VAN KATWYK (nee RUWHOF) passed away suddenly at Columbia Age Care, Lethbridge, on October 25, 2019 at the age of 96 years.
She is survived; by her children Joyce Van Katwyk of Zevenaar, Gelderland, the Netherlands, and Peter Van Katwyk (Helen) of Lethbridge; by her grandchildren Eric Van Katwyk (Casey) of Airdrie, and Kristin Cline (Erik) of Lethbridge; and her great-grandchildren Preston and Oliver of Airdrie. She is also survived by her brother Wim and sister-in-law Ba both of the Netherlands.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter Van Katwyk in 1975. She was also predeceased by her brothers Ben, Henk and Piet of the Netherlands.
Wilhelmina had fond memories of her childhood in Aalten, Gelderland. She survived the war years with her family, met her husband in post-war Netherlands, married in 1950 and immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario in 1952. As with many immigrants, she and her husband worked hard, saved and provided their children with material basics and good ethics. After she retired she joined her son and his growing family in western Canada (Calgary, Red Deer, Prince George, Lethbridge). Fiercely independent she always wanted to be helpful and productive. She died while knitting a baby cap for her next great-grandchild (Kristin and Erik's child is due in December).
A service of worship and praise to God in remembrance of Wilhelmina will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH - 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd West, Lethbridge, on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 10:00 A.M., with Pastor Lee Loveridge officiating. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. In memory of Wilhelmina, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lethbridge.
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!
