MR. JAKE VAN DYK, passed away with his children, grandchild and sister by his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the age of 82. Jake is survived by his children, daughters, Shirley Forth (Steve Walton) Marilyn van Dyk (Steve Emberly) and son Tony van Dyk (Faith McDermott) and special nephew Ed (Vilma) Weistra. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren, Michelle Brau, Mark Forth, Lisa Forth and Glen Forth. He is also survived by his sister Christine de Wit and brothers Gerard (Ruth) van Dyk, Cor (Jean) van Dyk and Ron (Bridgette) van Dyk. Jake was predeceased by his wife Grace van Dyk, his father Tunis van Dyk, his mother Geurtje van Dyk, his sister Willma de Vaal, his brothers Anthony van Dyk, Theo van Dyk, Gerry van Dyk and Henry van Dyk, son-in-law Rick Brau and granddaughter Kristie-Lynn Brau. Jake was born on November 8, 1927 in Veenendaal, Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in 1952 with his family. On January 27, 1957 he married his beloved wife Grace. They settled in Lethbridge, AB and raised their family. Jake was a very giving person. He gave many countless hours to community sports. He coached swimming, baseball, soccer and hockey for many years. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Lethbridge. His dedication to his family will truly be missed. Jake ran his own business for many years in Lethbridge. He gave of himself more than people realized. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
