It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father and grandfather, CONRAD (COENRADUS WILHELMUS) VAN BUUREN, who passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 76 years.
Conrad was born in Coalhurst, AB, on August 8, 1933. He was the fourth of 6 children born to William Van Buuren and Johanna VandeKamp. In 1951 Conrad met the love of his life, Louisa Boeckx, whom he married on December 4, 1954. They moved into Lethbridge together and raised 3 children; daughter Connie and sons Glenn and Allan. In 1972, with their family, Conrad and Louisa moved to the family farm. His life was his family, especially his grandchildren. His passion was watching their volleyball and soccer games - nothing would make him stay away.
Conrad started out working as a delivery boy and moved up to a meat-cutter, working at Star Market. Over the course of 39 years he managed several meat departments in various stores in Lethbridge and retired in 1994. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, joining when he was 18 years of age, and was one of the founding members of and very active in St. Vincent de Paul as well.
Conrad is lovingly remembered by his wife, Louisa, of 55 years, his daughter Connie of Calgary, his sons Glenn (Kristi) and Allan (Carol) and his grandchildren Jesse, Ashlynne, Kala and Braydon.
He leaves behind his sisters Aldegonda Wryostok and Johanna (Jermain) Soenen, many nieces and nephews as well as all of Louisa’s family. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Johanna, and brothers Harry, Bill and Squeek. A Prayer Service will be held at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 - 13th Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Raul Hernandez, celebrant.
Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
