After 102 years, Tsuya Horio passed away in Lethbridge on November 13, 2008, with the same grace and dignity that defined her life. Tsuya is survived by children, Frank Sugawara (Flo), Mary Higa (Laurence), Roy Horio and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tsuya was predeceased by two husbands, one daughter, Lucy Vass and son-in-law Alex Vass. Born in Tomi-gun, Japan, Tsuya moved to Canada in 1922 at the age of 18 years. She has lived a century of joy and hardship. Moves have taken her from Vancouver, to Tashme, Shaughnessy, Brooks, Calgary and finally to Lethbridge. Her positive outlook and joy for life has endured, and this is the gift she will pass on to future generations. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Pemmican Lodge for their help and kindness to ‘Sue’. At the request of our mother, a private funeral will be held in Calgary.
