ANTHONY ‘TONY’ POSTMAN, died at the age of 71 years, at The Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, June 29, 2009. Tony is survived by Pat, his wife of 43 years, a daughter, Carmen (Robert) Bogress of Ladner, BC, a son, Keanan (Glenda) Postman, of Lethbridge, AB, 5 grandchildren, Carley, Jordan and Madison Bogress and Cassidy and Noah Postman. Tony is also survived by 2 bothers, John W. (Berdena) Postman of Ontario and Leslie (Karen) Postman of Lethbridge, and several nephews and nieces. Tony was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Eden Grace Postman. Tony was born on August 11, 1937 in Lethbridge to Herman and Ada Postman of Monarch, AB. He attended elementary school in Monarch, high school in Nobleford and a year of college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He enjoyed playing the sports of hockey and baseball. He farmed near Nobleford until retirement. Tony and Pat moved from Nobleford to Lethbridge in 1990. Tony’s farming skills were shared voluntarily with farmers in Nicaragua through OXFAM and later he helped Canadian Food Grains Bank by encouraging farmers in southern Alberta to donate grain to C.F.G.B., then helping to distribute the grain to Ethiopia and Sudan. As a carpenter, Tony used his skills in several volunteer assignments in U.S.A., rebuilding homes destroyed by floods and hurricanes. He was also involved in school projects in Honduras. Tony was a charter member of Habitat for Humanity in Lethbridge and led the building committee for many years until his back pain forced him to stop. Tony spent several years interacting with young offenders and sharing his faith with them. Tony enjoyed harmonizing with the Lethbridge Barbershop Chorus, two quartets, and a Mennonite choir that toured Syria and Jordan in 2000. For the last several years he was a volunteer with the Lethbridge Immigrant Services, and was called the ’the living legend’ at the office. Many new immigrants bonded with Tony as he delivered groceries, visited, helped them in numerous ways and drank lots of tea. Tonys greatest joy was his grandchildren. He loved to cuddle them and rock them to sleep when they were young. As the kids got older, grandpa spent hours playing games, going on bike rides, trips to the farm, teaching a carpentry lesson and even sharing a joke or two. Grandpa had a soft knee to sit on, a playful wink, a warm hug and a joyous grin every time he saw his beloved grandchildren. Tony also enjoyed travelling and eating out, especially with the kids and grandkids.
