With deep sadness we announce that our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother, HAJNALKA SZILASI, passed away with her family by her side after a short battle with cancer at the age of 61 years. Hajnalka will be lovingly remembered by her husband Lajos, her children R?ka (Dustin), Gergely (Angela) and grandchildren Z?k, Erik, Zoli and Ada. She is also survived by her mother Margit Lakatos (Hungary) and brother Zsolt Lakatos (Hungary).
Hajnalka was born and raised in Kolozsv?r, Romania - a place she proudly called "home", even after many years of living in Canada. She completed her university education in economics, married her husband Lajos and raised a young family while continuing to work in her profession. After immigrating to Canada in 1992, Hajnalka worked as an accountant in Lethbridge and became involved with the Hungarian community in Southern Alberta. She was an active member of both the Hungarian Old-Timers Club and the Hungarian Cultural Society, where she served as an executive and organized various cultural exhibits and celebrations. In both her work and personal life she valued meticulous attention to detail and would often work late into the evening perfecting a club newsletter or crafting the most fitting opening remarks for a given event. Above all, she loved her family and experienced the greatest joy spending time together sharing home cooked meals or vacationing in the BC hot springs.
A Celebration of Life for Hajnalka will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Carol Gemer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit, 1400-9th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4V5.
