STOCKDALE, MABEL MILLA

MABEL MILLA STOCKDALE (nee McLean), beloved wife of the late Edward Stockdale, of Lethbridge, passed away at Extendicare in Fort Macleod on Friday, January 13, 2012.
Mabel is the loving mother of Gail (Gary) Thompson and Michael (Patti) Stockdale, the loving grandmother of Jason (Jami) Thompson and Andrea (Jody) Carpenter; as well as great-grandmother of Riley, Ryder Carpenter and Eason Thompson. She was predeceased by her parents James and Margaret McLean; as well as two brothers Cleveland and Donald McLean. Mabel was born in Webb, Saskatchewan on March 3, 1921. She completed her education in Saskatchewan and graduated with a diploma in nursing in 1942. She worked at St. Bonifice Hospital in Winnipeg as an LPN. In 1944 she married Edward Stockdale (of Sunderland, England). Mabel retired from the Municipal Hospital Dietary Service where she spent the last 19 years of employment. On retirement, Mabel took up her passion of water colors. She joined the Bowman Art Centre and took many art classes. She was President of the Dominion Rebecca Lodge, member of the Ladies Auxiliary Legion and past member of the Vasa Lodge. She loved gardening, clogging and travelling. She took many trips with her grandchildren to Disneyland. Mabel was known for her kind nature, smile and friendliness. She had many friends and took many bus tours until she became ill with Alzheimer’s in 2004. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Extendicare for the wonderful care that mom received. A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating. A Private Family interment preceded the Memorial Service at Mountain View Cemetery.
