Dad loved the oldies, and Hotel California would have made the list of favorites. In the end, he found his ticket to depart this chapter.

Dad loved the oldies, and Hotel California would have made the list of favorites. In the end, he found his ticket to depart this chapter.

They say that order is Heaven’s first law, and that would mean everything that we experience here in life is a divinely orchestrated symphony.

Dad came to play his music, through his guitar, through his carpentry and woodworking, and in his ability to connect with others through laughter, music and friendship.

Even more so it came through in the love for his family, he was the protector, the guardian, of his wife Linda, his son Scott and daughter Amy, and his grandchildren Sasha, Cami and Bryce.

People talk about the importance of the dash between one’s birthdate and the end, and that life’s meaning is tied up in it. Dad somehow managed to make everything timeless, his love and love of service, encapsulating all he was into his interactions.

Dad wrote a song, titled Now’s the Time, and although we don’t believe that was his intent at the time, it shows that he grasped the concept of living in the present. At one point in his life, he stopped wearing a watch in recognition of the importance of being in the now.

He was Dad to our own friends, Uncle Steve to many others, he was a natural magnet for many. As our cousin once said, everyone needs an Uncle Steve like him.

Dad will live on in our hearts, in our tears, in our fond stories and memories. He touched many people these past 75 years and all of you were a part of his final melodies.

I am saddened to learn of Steve's passing. Steve's was a co-worker of mine for a portion of his career. He was a good guy to work with. My deepest condolences to Linda , Amy and Scott and families.

Linda, Scott, Amy and family. Our community will not be the same without Steve. I know we’ll find comfort in each other and we”ll get through this together. We will miss his short visits when he comes by to get the mail. We will also miss our afternoons of canasta. We will miss seeing him working on his wood carvings in his garage. Steve had a smile that would brighten any room that he entered. There are no words for the legacy Steve has left behind. His shining personality will live on in our hearts. I know I can’t make your pain go away, but I want you to know we are here for you with a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen with, or anything else you may need. Peter & Rhonda Merko

What a beautiful tribute to an even more beautiful man. There is not enough words to describe how wonderful Steve was. We became friends and felt like we were family. Steve was always there when he was needed, so generous with his time and always made you laugh. His smile is what I will remember most about him as it was always there….and his laugh was contagious! Loved by all and gone much too soon. Sending love and prayers to Linda, Scott, Amy and families.

Yvonne and I have fond memories of Steve, Linda, Scott and Amy. Steve was a generous friend, a talented musician, and a voracious card played. I remember fondly trips in his truck ‘seeing his world’ in rural Saskatchewan. Since he and Linda’s departure from Lloydminster, we have missed their friendship and open invitation to their home to play Canasta, marvel in his workshop and the craftsmanship he put into woodworking. Peace, love and friendship my friend. May the Lord greet you, embrace you and hold you until we meet again.

Steve was my big brother and we were always able to connect with each other when the need arose. I will miss him and hope he is at peace now

Linda, March 6, 2024

The obituary definitely defines who Steve was. To us, he was the dearest friend one could ever with for. Always so thoughtful, caring, compassionate! Not enough adjectives to describe our love for Steve, Linda and family. Many happy occasions were shared through the years. Thanks for the memories. Heaven has definitely gained another Angel who is there to watch over many. My deepest sympathy to the family. Treasure those memories. And may God embrace you in his loving arms on this grieving journey. Love ❤️ you.
