Jacob Steinbrenner passed away peacefully at age 90 on February 15th at St. Therese Villa in Lethbridge after a struggle with dementia.
Beloved husband of 66 years to his loving wife, Adina, on his last day even though he could no longer audibly speak, he told Adina he loved her. Survived as well by his two children Jacob of Beaumont, Marlene (Maurice) Lapointe of Lethbridge; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Yannick) L'Abbe, Stephanie Lapointe (Ben Fuller); great granddaughter Adara Yvette L'Abbe; brother Leonard (Karen) Steinbrenner; sister-in-law Olga (Anton) Wagner; brother-in-law Karl Hass and their respective children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents: Jakob & Anna Steinbrenner, his father & mother-in-law: Karl & Lydia Hass, his sister, three brothers, two brothers-in-law, a niece and grand-nephew.
Jacob was born May 17th, 1931 in Josefstal, Ukraine, and then migrated in 1943 to Germany. Through the Lutheran Church, Jacob immigrated with his mother and brother Leonard to Canada, settling in Coaldale where he married Adina and they resided most of their life.
You know the saying; "I'd rather be...," well the last word for Jacob was "fishing," even when he got "skunked." Many days, on shore or on his boat with family and friends, were enjoyed at the numerous lakes in southern Alberta. His other passion was singing or if he didn't know the words he'd hum real loud. He was never hard to find around home!
He sang with the German Canadian Male Choir for close to 20 years, singing at hospitals, care homes and festivals throughout western Canada. Lots of fond memories will live on as well from the dances, concerts, weddings and special events like Oktoberfest's and World Cup victories that were celebrated at the German Canadian Hall.
As a carpenter by trade, Jake as he was also known by, was very proficient with his hands and built things, including four of his own homes in Coaldale and countless other homes and commercial buildings throughout Lethbridge and area working for various builders.
Jacob Steinbrenner placed his trust in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed, and his memory treasured by his family and all whose lives he touched.
The family would especially like to thank the caregivers and staff at St. Therese Villa for looking after Jacob in his last years.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 - 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday February 19, 2022 at 11:00 A.M., with a reception to follow.
Jacob will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those so wishing can donate in memoriam to the Alzheimer's Association.
