Mr. WESLEY ANDREW STANKO passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 in Lethbridge at the age of 57.
Wes is survived by his mother, Rose Stanko, his two brothers: Rick and Cindy Stanko and their family; Jennifer (Kent) Halluk, Kim (Tony) Ankermann, and Christine (Kenny) Joss; Doug and Mary Anne Stanko and their family; April, Lindsay, and Heather; two great nephews: Hudson Ankermann and Kale Halluk. Wes was predeceased by an infant brother Jerry in 1950, and his father Andy in 1973.
Wes was born in Lethbridge on July 13, 1954, the second child to Andy and Rose. They lived in Lethbridge until the family picked up stakes and moved to Lomond in 1962. Wes finished his schooling in Lomond and went on to take Petroleum Engineering at SAIT (Calgary). He had allergies and farming wasn’t really his cup of tea, so he worked with his Mom at the Shaughnessy Hotel. Wesley was a successful entrepreneur of property management.
He loved cars. Wesley was a Pontiac gearhead and loved to tinker with cars and make them special. He was a Q-jet carburetor genius and his work was the icing on many of his brother’s and friend’s project cars. When he was first hospitalized and the doctor wanted to give him a shunt, he told the doctor “That’s not the way to fix a carb and that’s not the way to fix me either.” Always about cars. Wes a very unique, generous, and loved to give cool “Uncle” Christmas presents to his nieces and red roses to his Mom. We will miss you Wes.
