BERTHA "BEA" SMITH, beloved wife of the late Bob Smith, of Lethbridge and formerly of Claresholm, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa, on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the age of 96 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Darlene Wetherill of Regina, SK and Sherry (Potocnjak) Smith of Lethbridge, AB as well as three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Bob Smith, in 2013 and sisters Maggie and Edna.
Bertha had spent most of her working career as a nurse's aide at the sanatorium (Ft. San) located at Echo Lake near the town of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK, working alongside her husband Bob Smith who was a chef at the same facility. In the early 1970's when the sanatorium was officially closed, they decided to move their family to Alberta, where Bob had found work at the Claresholm Care Center and where Bertha could continue her career as a nurse's aide. They spent the rest of their lives in Claresholm. Bertha entered the St. Therese Village facility in 2010, where she resided till her passing.
We would like to thank the entire staff at St. Therese Village in Lethbridge for their incredible dedication to their work. Bertha was treated with the best of care and the staff showed their heartfelt love and caring for her and her family in many ways.
A private Service will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Bertha will be laid to rest with her husband Bob in the Claresholm Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we would kindly ask for a small donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (alzheimer.ca/donate/).
