Sheldon Edward Wells “Piihksahkii”, beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 12, 2024, in Lethbridge, AB at the age of 56 years.

The gorgeous & vibrant Sheldon leaves behind his pride and joy, his one and only daughter Cee Jaye (Sage) Fox and his precious grandson William Fox. His Brothers: Vincent (Kelly), Rudy, Casey (Kailey), Shane, Tex Pilling, Jay Pilling and Brent Provost. His Baby Sister Darolyn (Dean), Tina Pilling and Lori Pilling. Best Friends Delphine Cross Child, Anita White Grass, Merl Cross Child, Kyle Across the Mountain and Chad Calf Robe. Nieces and Nephews: Brandon, Shawna, Lacey, TC, Charles, Dolon, Danica, Tannis, Riley, Dallion Cherokee, Easton, Keelie and Wybie and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Sheldon was born on May 26, 1968, in Cardston, AB to the late Edwin (Smokey) Wells & the late Darlene Rose Day Rider-Pilling. Sheldon had an amazing outlook on life. He was a spark full of joy and happiness, he could always brighten up your day, making you laugh with his exceptional sense of humour. He grew up in the Farm Four area and had fond memories of his childhood with his parents, siblings, cousins, friends, aunts, uncles and Grandma Rosie and Grandpa Barney. He also grew up in the Moses Lake area, making many lifelong friends. For the last years of his life, he made his permanent home in Lethbridge, AB where you can find him with his new family, living life to the fullest.

Sheldon’s educational journey began at Cardston Elementary School, 1986 Cardston High School Diploma, 1987 Lethbridge Community College – Lethbridge, AB, 1990 Vocational College - Calgary, AB, 1994 Administrative Assistant Program Bow Valley College – Calgary, AB, 2016 Arts & Science Program Red Crow Community College – Blood Reserve, AB, 2018 Indigenous Language - University of Alberta – Edmonton, 2018 Training and Certified for Solar Panelling, 2018-2019 Health Care Aide, 2002 Mount Royal College – Calgary, AB. In 1986-1987 Sheldon was enrolled in the Foreign Exchange Student Program which that took him across the world to Thailand, where he experienced a new culture and loved every minute of it.

Sheldon’s favourite past times were playing Hand-games, Softball and Volleyball. He was a gifted athlete. In 1995 he competed in AIHEC (American Indian Higher Education Consortium) in Duluth, Wisconsin and was apart of the first team to win from Canada. Lethbridge Community College, Division A & B and Fort MacLeod Volleyball Leagues. His passion for Volleyball and Softball led Sheldon all over Canada and the United States a few of his highlight tournaments included: Annual Sikska Tour, Tsuu Tina, Hobemma Band and the Native American Gay Association. He would just show up to games and tournaments and somehow end up on a team! He loved to travel all over Canada and the United States for Handgames with his family. Sports teams that he was especially proud to be apart of were the Peanuts (Volleyball), Spaz (Volleyball), Trailblazers (Volleyball), the Gumboot Gang (Baseball), the Dust Devils (Softball), his team members became his family.

Sheldon always looked forward to Summer and Uncle Leonard’s Piercing Sundance in Farm Four. He helped in any way he could: cleaning, cooking and entertaining friends and family. Sheldon was always the first one up and last one to go to bed.

For the last few months Sheldon was devoted to helping his Lethbridge family. He was hard at work preparing care packages to ensure that his friends would be taken care of. He got donations and used his own means to make sure that he could help his friends and community. He was a very caring and humble person, who would go that extra mile to help.

In 1991 Sheldon met the love of his life, his husband the late Will Wood. They started out as friends, and in 2004 that friendship blossomed into a love that consumed them. Sheldon loved Will with all of his heart, when Will passed away in 2017 Sheldon was very sad. His family takes comfort in knowing that they are reunited.

Left to cherish Sheldon’s memory are his mom: Jesse (Cookie) Creighton, his Maternal Uncles: God Father Andy (Pat) Day Rider, Leonard Day Rider, Pete Day Rider, Ronnie (Cynthia) Scout and Clayton Blood. Paternal Uncles: Jerry Wells. His Maternal Aunts: Theresa Wadsworth, Martha Day Chief, Rose Fox, Doreen (Jeff Fox), Shelly Iron Shirt and Angus Devine-Day Rider. Paternal Aunt: Theresa Mistaken Chief. His nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous friends who became family. The Families of the Day Rider’s, Plume’s, Wells and Long Time Squirrels.

Sheldon is predeceased by his Beautiful Baby Granddaughter: Yuri Wells, Father Edwin (Smokey) Wells, Mother Darlene Day Rider-Pilling, Father Roy Pilling, Sister Bobbie Rose (Dolly), Nephews: Dustin & Dalton Wells, Tyson Blair Wells, Sterlyn Many Shots, Skylar Wells, Kyle Wells and Dwight Scout. Nieces: Kari Rose Wells and Kara Rose Wells. Maternal Grandparents: Barney & Rosie Day Rider. Paternal Grandparents: Jim Sr & Molly Wells. Maternal Uncles: Pat Eagle Tailfeathers, Johnny Day Rider, Tex Day Rider, Pat Fox, Winston Day Chief Sr, Melvin Wadsworth. Paternal Uncles: Jimmy Wells, Jordan Wells. Paternal Aunts: Shirley Calf Robe, Florence Brave Rock, Nina Buckskin, Joan Wells and Anna Wells.

Sheldon was a proud father and grandfather; in his final days he spent precious moments with his family, providing his unconditional love and support, and ensuring that they knew how much they meant to him.

Sheldon was the most beautiful person with a huge heart and a personality that was larger than life. He was a bright light, and his legacy of love, laughter, and family will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

The family wishes to apologize if any names may have been missed, everyone had a special place in Sheldon’s heart.

A Wake will be held at MOSES LAKE GYM, Moses Lake, AB, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 7:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at MOSES LAKE GYM on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.

Following the Funeral Service, Sheldon will be laid to rest in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
