SHANKS, LAWRENCE H.

MR. LAWRENCE H. SHANKS, beloved husband of Mrs. Mildred Shanks of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the age of 92 years. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children; Glenn Shanks of Coutts, AB, Lana Shanks (Dan Stepanic) of Lethbridge and Lyle (Diane) Shanks of Lethbridge and grandchildren; Matthew, Jaime, Eric and Cole. He is also survived by sisters Eleanor Hobbs of Assiniboia, SK and Enid Brown of Wetaskawin, AB, several nieces and nephews and Mildred’s sister Dorothy (George) Carroll of Lethbridge and their family. He was predeceased by his brother Edward and sisters Lena, Alvina and Alda. Lawrence met his lifelong companion and partner Mildred in 1946 and married in 1947. He lived on the families homestead in the district of Verwood, Saskatchewan and farmed for 42 years where he raised his family. Lawrence farmed his fields with such passion and raised an incredible herd of Charolais cattle. Lawrence was an avid sportsman and was well known for his outstanding athletic abilities in baseball, curling, golf and in later years bowled up a storm. Lawrence loved his family dearly making sure his children received an education and that they took great pride in their accomplishments. A Celebration of Life will be held at the LETHBRIDGE SENIOR CITIZENS ORGANIZATION, 500 - 11 Street South, Lethbridge on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. In memory of Lawrence, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 4K7.
