The Final Strikeout
It is with heavy hearts that the family of MERVIN SHANKLAND announce his peaceful passing, surrounded by his family at the St. Michael's Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the age of 79 years.
Mervin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to so many. Mervin is survived by his beloved wife Gerri, sons Kevin (Jennien) and Kurt, grandchildren Nicolas (Anna) and Taylyn (Brandy), brother Harvey (Ruth), sister Eunice and his extended family, the McQueens of Saskatchewan.
He will be remembered in many circles as the "Ace Chucker" - The veteran pitcher for the Lethbridge Niseis, Flyers and the Crighton Cubs. Mervin lived his life like he played ball, to the fullest, always, with love and respect for his family and friends.
A Celebration of Mervin's Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mervin's name to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Alberta Diabetes Foundation, or Lethbridge Minor League Baseball.
