Timmy lived a joyful life. His tender spirit and cheerful disposition left a meaningful imprint on the hearts of every one who knew him.
Timmy was born in Swift Current, SK, the second oldest of six brothers and sisters. He spent his early years growing up with his family there and his older siblings have fond memories of these times. In the mid 1960's Timmy went intofoster care in Saskatchewan where he was embraced by several families. Although we don't know their names, we are grateful for their generosity towards this vulnerable, downs syndrome boy. In 1969, Tim's family moved away to Calgary, but in 1981 he was permanently re-united with his Mom, step Dad Edand siblings Steven, Jo-Anne, and Dan when the Ryder family moved to Lethbridge. Tim's brothers and sisters, their spouses and children; his aunties, uncles and cousins; and many extended family members have their own "Timmy stories" that they share when together and will keep tucked away in their hearts forever.
For the last 20 years, Health Care Homes operators Dennis and Loretta Hanzel and their many kind-hearted staff have been part of Tim's life either by providing respite care for his family on weekends, or by providing full-time care in a group home environment. Timmy has happily resided in his home on the south sidefor the last decade where he's lived side-by-side with other disabled adults. He has been cherished and enjoyed by a team of caregivers, his "second family", many of whom have known and loved him for many, many years. In particular, we express deep and heartfelt thanks to Janice Hubbard as well as Timmy's many wonderful caregivers for their extraordinary and faithful care of him for so long.
Even while infirm in hospital over the last three weeks, Timmy managed to win the hearts of many. We wish to sincerely thank hospitalists Drs. Coma and Orr, and the many nurses and student nurses who treated and gently cared for him during this fragile time. Thank you to all of you for your kindness and for sharing fun stories of Timmy's reactions, smiles, and giggles while you attended to him. It meant a lot.
Timmy, we all love you and will deeply miss you! Thank you for being part of our lives and for teaching us about the love of God - inthesimplicity of laughing gleefully about "nothing at all", through taking joy in the "little things", and in just being together "in the present".Jesus has gone to prepare a special place for you. Enjoy little buddy!
