Severino ‘Sam’ Girardi of Lethbridge passed away on July 12, 2008 at 88 years of age. He is survived by his loving wife Maria, sons Ivano of Edmonton and Elio (Myrna) of Lethbridge, and grandchildren Arryl, Samantha and David. He is also survived by his sister Maria (Grazioso) Roman of Toronto, and by his sister Rosina Girardi, brother Alessandro (Gina) Girardi , and sister-in-law Liliana Girardi all of Italy. He also leaves Maria’s brother Giorgio (Ines) Sartorel , her sister Lucia Verardo , and sister-in-law Gina Sartorel all of Italy, and her sister-in-law Santina Sartorel of Cranbrook, B.C., as well nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Italy. Sam was predeceased by his parents Natale and Carolina Girardi, sister Luigia, brother Angelo, and brothers-in law Lorenzo Pighin, Giordano Sartorel, Primo Sartorel and Bruno Sartorel. Severino was born in Zoppola, Italy on March 24, 1920. He married Maria Sartorel on January 11, 1947. Their first son, Ivano, was born in Italy. Sam left Italy for Canada in 1951 and settled in the Michel/Natal area, where his father had worked building the railway prior to WWI. He made this his home and sent for Maria and Ivano. Sam and Maria’s second son, Elio, was born in B.C. In 1959, the family moved to Toronto, where Sam worked for CDM. He transferred to Lethbridge in 1962, took classes at the college, and became a Steam Engineer. He worked at CDM in this capacity until his retirement in 1985. In his retirement years, Sam enjoyed gardening, bowling, spending time with family and friends, and walking his little dog, Coco. Relatives and friends are invited to a Prayer Service at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South , Wednesday July 16, 2008 at 7:00P.M. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH 2405 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 10:30 P.M.
