On April 12, 2018 at the age of 21, NEIL JOSEPH SCHULER passed away peacefully with his mother at his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital, just two doors down from where he was born.
He leaves to mourn his beloved mother Tammy, stepfather Mike McLaren, sister Nichole and brother Jessie. He will also be remembered by his biological father's other children that he got to meet as a young adult: sister Layla Chicago (Tyler Warren) and her three sons as well as brother Raphael Chicago and sister Lacretia Chicago of Thunder Bay. He also leave to mourn grandfathers, George Schuler and Don Sponchia, grandmothers, Mary Haug and Gerry McLaren, as well as numerous other relatives who meant the world to him. We take comfort that Joey has gone to be with his father Karl Sponchia, grandfather Richard McLaren and his grandmothers, Rachael Oliver and Jean Schuler.
Joey struggled his entire life with his illness. He just wanted to be normal; be his own person. Through it all, Joey, was a happy-go-lucky person with an infectious laugh. If Joey was your friend, he was a loyal friend, a friend to the end.
Joey attended school at St Paul's till age 11, at which time he moved to Slave Lake to live with his stepdad Mike, sister Nichole and brother Jessie. He moved back to Lethbridge and attended Victoria Park High School. Joey didn't complete his schooling but was a very intelligent young man. He was extremely computer smart and able to absorb any subject he showed interest in. Joey spent his childhood playing Yu-Gi-Oh and Pok?mon at Showcase comics on Saturdays.
Joey was the kind of guy you never forgot. He left a mark on all who crossed his path. Joey will always be remembered and loved.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with a gathering afterwards.

I met Joey in the hospital and he got me through it. We where best friends and I'm crushed I never got to see him one last time. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was warm and loving and ill miss him forever.
Tammy I am so very sorry for your loss. There are no words of comfort which I have ever received for my own loss. I wish there was some magical combination of words to ease your suffering. Please know that's hearts are broken around the world for you and for Joey. We are here for you.
I will miss my cousin son Joey. I am glad that I was given the chance to know him when he had stayed with my children and I a few years ago. He was a very intelligent and loving young man and I had hoped that as he matured he would find his way to developing his gifts. Almost everyday he would share one story or another about his siblings and how he missed being in their company and I send my love to them, his parents and grandparents. I know that he held love all his family and he would want nothing but the best for those he loved. Wishing Joeys leaving was not so and we were given the chance to see him become the man he would have grown to be.
Tammy, Hold him in your heart, Remember his life, The times you had together, And how he came back to your nest. With these things, he will never be gone. That's the one after life that we can guarantee. Sincerely, your buddy - Gord.

Dear Joey, you've left the world a little more interesting place than before you were here. It will be difficult to go on without your jokes, personality, and kindheartedness. We will remember you as having changed everyone's lives you touched. Wherever you may be, I hope all difficulties and struggle have ended and that you may experience the peace and rest you so very much deserve. -Your Brother, Jace
