Ruth is survived by her children: Leonard, Linda (James), Judy, Dean (Elaine), and Denise (James); as well as 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law.
She was predeceased by her parents; as well as three brothers and one sister.
Ruth was born March 24, 1921 in Major, Saskatchewan to Fred and Francis Peterson. She worked at Swift Current Union Hospital and later, the Municipal Hospital in Lethbridge. She retired in 1987, and she and Alex spent their days together camping and gardening. Ruth was a trail blazer, far ahead of her time and had a zest for life that was unmatched. Full of vigor, she was spicy and always up for a laugh or a walk outdoors. No one could keep up to her.
The family would like to extend thanks to the team at Chinook Regional Hospital Emergency Room and Medicine Ward for their care in her final hours and everyone at Heritage Lodge where she lived the past ten years.
As Ruth would say, “The old grey mare, just ain’t what she used to be.”
At Ruth’s request, no formal funeral service will be held. In memory of Ruth, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heritage Lodge Social Fund, 601 6th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 2E4.

Our condolences to the family. Rest in peace Aunt Ruth.
We were privileged to have been neighbours of Ruth and Alex, Dean and Denise on the Westside of Lethbridge back in the 1970s. We always enjoyed seeing Ruth around town with Dean in the years since, and stopping to chat or even share a coffee together. She had a sparkle in her eyes and a ready smile whenever we saw her. Our Condolences to the Schumacher family
It was an honor and privilege to get to know Ruth. My fondest memory of her was when she told me “You have to come see me early because I’m not waiting around. I have things to do today!” And so I proceeded to chase a 103 yr old! I also remember teasing her about seeing her on the mayor’s Facebook page so often that she was going to be famous. I’ll miss seeing your smile at the lodge.
I used to deliver milk to Ruth and Alex over 50 years ago. They were the most sincere and kindest people on my milk route. Certain people leave an impression on you during your life time and Ruth and Alex were those kind of people. We have lost a gentle soul.
As your son and daughter-in-law we are heartbroken that our beloved mother has passed away. We are forever grateful for her love and will miss her dearly, but her memory will live in our hearts. Mom we so incredibly sad to say goodbye, but we are grateful for all the love and joy you brought into our lives. You were the best mother and mother-in-law anyone could ask for,and we will cherish the memories we made with you. You were more than just a mother, you were our rock, our confident and the heart of the family. We love you always and forever, Mom. We will miss you terribly.
You were an incredible strong willed woman. I always admired you for always your strength and wisdom to carry on. You are at home now with Alex, another angel looking over us. You and Alex behave yourself ( lol) you both will be missed!!
You are my mentor, my leader, my God. You were ahead of your time, "lets get up and move", go for a walk. You are a bright shining angel in the heavenly sky. I love and cherish you. Have a dance with your sweatheart ALEX hold him close. Hugs Ada
I will cherish all the moments of our lives together.
