Rudy will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Rose; stepdaughters: Deb (Rod) Funk and their daughters Alysha (Enan) Dyck and Kirstin Funk, Julie (Jeff) Harrington and her three daughters: Emylie (Jarod), Saidey and Alyvia, and Cindy (Trevor) Munn and their daughters: Tori and Beth; and his sister-in-law, Martha Egger. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and their families and many great-nieces and nephew.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Sarah Egger; brother, Fred Egger; brother, Alex Egger; sister-in-law, Lucille Egger; nephew, Darcy Egger; and niece, Cyndi Egger.
Rudy was born in Lethbridge, AB, to Alex and Sarah Egger. As a young child, he lived in Diamond City until he was six years old, at which time his parents purchased a farm in Coaldale, and this is where he grew up. He had many fond memories of those years growing up, and many a story to tell of times spent with his friends.
He married Evelyn Bratton on March 30, 1963 and they lived in Lethbridge until Ev’s passing after 43 years of marriage.
Rudy jointed the Department of Corrections in 1966 and retired in 2001. During his career, he worked under the umbrella of the Solicitor General, the Attorney General, and finally, under the umbrella of the Department of Justice. He served as a Deputy Director of Operations and Security of the Lethbridge Correctional Centre. During his career, Rudy received several awards for his exemplary work, as well as receiving many plaques of recognition and earning his “Bars” after his 35-year career with the department.
Rudy was a kind, gentle and compassionate man. His love for the Lord, shone in his life. He will be greatly missed but his legacy of love and laughter will go on.
At Rudy’s request, no funeral will be held. Cremation is entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home.
Rudy will be laid to rest with his beloved wife, Evelyn Egger, in Archmount Cemetery at a later date, yet to be determined.
His family has graciously requested that no flowers be sent at this time. In lieu, for those who wish, donations may be made to International Justice Mission (IJM Canada), PO Box 88031 RPO Levi Creek, Mississauga, ON, L5N 8M1.
