Ronald Russell
RONALD “RON” JOSEPH RUSSELL, beloved husband of Lorraine Russell, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the age of 91 years.
He was born in County Donegal, Ireland and came to Canada as a young man.
He worked for Woodward’s for almost three decades, and then spent another three decades ranching. He took good care of his cows, sheep, and goats. He was especially fond of his dogs, mostly Border Collies, even when they chewed through the seatbelts in his truck.
Ron was a great curler and lawn bowler. He was a master Bridge player and had many good friends at the Lethbridge Bridge Club.
After 65 years of marriage, he leaves behind his dear wife—Lorraine. He is also survived by his daughter, Robyn (James) and his son, John (Nancy). He also leaves behind his granddaughter Carlee (Joey) and great grandson—Payton. As well as his grandson Rory (Rheannon). Ron has one surviving sister Rita Roulston in Stranorlar, Ireland. He was predeceased by his other sister Joan Cameron and brothers Fred and John.
A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the CRH that were so kind to him during his time in the hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., with a tribute at 1:45 P.M.

Deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Ronnie, a wonderful friend since childhood days in Donegal. It was a privilege to know Ron. Our sincere condolences to Lorraine and the family. And to Rita in Stranorlar. May Ron rest among the angels.
As a child, I knew Ron and Lorraine as a family friend growing up in Burnaby and remained in touch with Ron and Lorraine as well as John, and less so Robyn (Sp?)- even flying to Raymond, Alberta from Vancouver to help Ron out on the farm for a week. It was more a farm experience for ME than anything else, but I DO recall taking 2 hour alternating shifts during the frigid nites with Ron to check for lambs having beem born on the snow at -20C and move them into the warm barn before they froze to death! I also helped Ron deliver a calf in distress as Ron used a chain with his arms up to his elbows in the mother to wrap the legs while I winched the calf out using a comealong! Ron was quite a character and I loved hearing his stories delivered in that lovely Irish accent. Rest in Peace, Ron! Kevin
