Esau, Ronald

1963-2024 (The words that follow are Ron’s own written only a few months before he passed. Only the date of his passing has been updated.) Ron Esau was born in Coaldale, Alberta on September 9, 1963. He passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy battle with cancer on Monday, April 15, 2024 with his loving wife LeAnn and several other family members at his side.

He is survived by his loving wife, LeAnn (Popson) Esau; his beloved siblings: Marion (Ron) Braun; Alvin (Sandra) Fowler Esau; Rose (Dennis) Siemens; Linda (Bill) Holden; Frieda (Norm) Klippenstein; Ken (Karen) Esau—as well as LeAnn’s siblings: Dwight (Mary Jean) Popson; Wade Popson (Sandra Napper). Ron is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ron was predeceased by his parents John & Anne Esau, and by LeAnn’s parents Steve & Stella Popson.

Ron graduated in 1981 from Kate Andrews High School (Coaldale). Ron loved school so much that he kept on going and graduated once from Columbia Bible College (Abbotsford, BC), three times from Lethbridge College, and two times from the University of Lethbridge.

In spite of all of his nice times learning in school, Ron’s happiest day of each year was getting called back to work for the City of Lethbridge. His career included ten seasons in Parks Irrigation; ten seasons as a Parks Landscaper; 15 seasons as the City of Lethbridge Mosquito Technician; and over 20 winter seasons driving the Zamboni in different Lethbridge arenas.

He had very few bad workdays. He loved his fellow employees and bosses. His favourite work was training the new employees and giving them the best first day on the job possible. When not working, he would try to fit in two or three fitness classes each day.

He loved biking, running, and hiking. Even if the weather was bad, golfing nine holes at Picture Butte with his good friends had to be attempted. Ron loved camping in Waterton with LeAnn and their dog Abby.

Most of all, Ron loved Jesus and anything that Ron accomplished was from Jesus working through him. Ron was so thankful for the almost two years Jesus gave him after his cancer diagnosis. Praise God!

A Graveside Service will be held at ROYAL VIEW CEMETERY, 5920 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 A.M., followed by a Funeral Service at COLLEGE DRIVE COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2710 College Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, at 1:00 P.M. with Ken Esau and Pastor Dick Deweert officiating. Dear LeAnn and Ron's siblings and family, I am one of many cousins. On family visits, Ron was always easy to talk to and relaxed and I remember playing frisbee in the backyard in Coaldale with Ron and my family as well. Our deepest sympathies to LeAnn and the extended family. Our memories of his kindness to us whether we were touring around Coaldale, or contributing to conversations filled with memories via texts with Ken, when he would visit Ron at Christmas. We will cherish all of it. His kindness was inspiring.

Though it was not mentioned, I know of Ron's dedication to his parents. He supported his Father when help was needed. He supported his Mother and respected her opinions and decisions. He gave to them freely and lovingly. He was truly a gift to his family.

Condolences to Ron's family. I am one of those City workers whose first day at work was made brighter when being welcomed by Ron. He taught me all about mosquito work and made sure to help me after he retired as I stepped into his hard-to-fill shoes. I will think of Ron and his positive attitude every day as I try to honour his example of kindness and caring.

Todd Carter, April 19, 2024

I know Ron since we were in Grade 6 and also from years attending the MB church in Coaldale. Over the years, we played basketball on the same Junior High team as well as tennis and racquetball. Ronnie was consistently cheerful and a pleasure to be around.... my sincere condolences.

Jim Nikkel, April 19, 2024

Carolyn and I send our deepest condolences to LeAnn and his relatives. I have had pleasure of knowing Ron since Grade 4 in Coaldale. We grew up together playing sports and biking around Coaldale and then more recently on his eBikes. Ron always had a smile on his face and was compassionate to everyone. He uplifted people even when he battled cancer. He was such a great example and we all should be more like Ron. We will miss him immensely.

So very sorry to hear of Rons passing. He will be missed by all. Enjoyed all the years I worked with him.

Hector and Brenda, April 18, 2024

Ron was a wonderful person! When I saw Ron anywhere a conversation always broke out. The topics were never the same as Ron knew much about many things. If he didn't know - well then he listened. Ron always wanted to know how I was, especially after my son Logan passed. Ron knew and remembered so many of the athletes that crossed his path while at the City rinks. Ron was one of the "great ones" my family was blessed to meet. I need to add that the smile in his picture is Ron!!

Toby Boulet, April 18, 2024

Regards to Ron's Family on his passing. Just wanted to share that I had the pleasure of knowing Ron as one of the most selfless people, always stepping up for others ensuring they had a better day. Ron was committed to his many jobs at the City of Lethbridge and consistently went above and beyond helping our many minor hockey players & families have a great experience at the Rink. Ron, you made a difference on this Earth.....Rest in Peace......Ian Sanderson
