It is with great sadness that the family of JAMES REICH announces his passing on October 4, 2010 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was born in Craik Saskatchewan on July 15, 1947. He began school in the country at Sunny Knoll and later attended Craik School where he graduated with grade 12. He attended the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan and took his Masters degree in political science at the University of Calgary.
Jim retired after 35 years in the Canadian Foreign Service with postings in England, the Philippines, India, Jamaica, and The United States. Music was one of Jim’s greatest joys in life. He was an accomplished guitarist, pianist and prolific song writer. For the past 15 years, Jim enjoyed playing music at a variety of senior’s residences in Ottawa and Lethbridge.
Jim was the beloved husband to Heather Corbett. Devoted father to Stephanie (Kevin) Davis, Julie (Paul) Duerichen and Nathan Reich, children of former wife, Kathrine Saslow. Also, stepfather to David (Catherine) Scown and Jason (Stephanie Carson) Scown. Cherished grandfather to 10 very special grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Judith (Terry) Waters and Patricia (Garry) Morrison, and several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his parents John William Reich and Marjorie Eleanor Scott.
A Memorial and Graveside Service will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW MEMORIAL GARDENS, 1515, 100 St. S.E. in Calgary, on Wednesday, October 13 at 2:00 pm.
