Cartwright, Reginald

June 16, 2025

With broken hearts, the family of REGINALD “REG” WILLIAM CARTWRIGHT, our husband, father, grandfather and best friend, announce his peaceful passing at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, June 16, 2025 at the age of 83 years.

Missing Reg are his wife Judy-Lynn of 59 years, daughter Tamara (Alvin) and son Andrew; grandchildren: Raeanna, Talyah, Tyrus, Elizabeth and Tavin; his brother Gary (Barb) and several nieces and nephews, and close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Francis Cartwright, in-laws Rena and Andy Turner, and brothers-in-law Ross and Brad.

Reg was born in Princeton, BC, raised in Oliver, BC where he graduated from Oliver High School, and a member of Air Cadets throughout high school years during which he obtained his pilot’s licence. Reg relocated to Cranbrook, BC to pursue a career as a Chartered Accountant, where he met his future wife, Judy. They were married in 1966, with daughter Tamara arriving in 1970, and son Andrew in 1972. With a young family, Reg found time to play tennis, baseball, and coached and refereed Minor Hockey in Cranbrook, and was a member of the Cranbrook Jaycees holding various offices. In 1981, the family relocated to Lethbridge, AB for a career change. With both kids in sports Tamara in soccer and Andrew in hockey, he began referring minor hockey which he did until the kids could skate faster than he could. He also refereed Old Timer’s Hockey in Lethbridge. Weekends found the family travelling for sporting events. When the grandkids became involved in 4H, hockey and LaCross, he attended their activities – a proud grandpa cheering from the stands. Reg began working night shift at Parkside inn, and continued working for the Travelodge until he retired in September, 2022 at the age of 81.

Over the past couple years he has had health challenges, which created changes in their lives resulting in many travel plans being put on hold, and now are only a dream. He attended Bridge’s Senior program where he enjoyed playing crib and socializing. Games of crib were also enjoyed with his son and friend Randy. He can now play with his father as they did whenever we visited. Love you forever, and know you’re now at peace.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Yamashita, and the other doctors and nurses at the Chinook Regional Hospital as well as CBI HomeCare for their help through his challenges over the past several months.

In honouring Reg’s request, no funeral service will be held.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu and in memory of Reg, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (heartandstroke.ca), Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca), Diabetes Foundation (diabetes.ca) or your favourite charity.
