It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother GUY RED CRANE (MELTING TALLOW) surrounded by his family at the Calgary Foothills Hospital on Monday, January 10, 2011 at the age of 65 years.
Guy was born at the Blood Reserve Hospital in Cardston, AB on February 7, 1945. He received his education in Fort Macleod, AB and was one of the first native students to attend the schools in the Willow Creek School Division.
During his life, Guy resided on the Blood Reserve, Lethbridge and Calgary. For the last six months, he made his home in Calgary with niece Naomi Melting Tallow and his nephews.
In his younger years, he made many accomplishments. One of his highlights is when he had the opportunity to be a part of the Long Time Pipe Ceremony with his grandfather John Red Crane. Another is when he received the transfer of the Sacred Whistle. He was also a traditional chicken dancer and won several championships at the Calgary Stampede and throughout Canada and the U.S.
He was an avid sportsman. He played hockey with both the Fort Macleod and Kainai hockey teams. He was also an excellent softball player. He played on several softball teams. Guy also like playing pool, especially challenging a game with his dad Frank. Above all, Guy loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He devoted much of his time and energy as an uncle to them. Guy loved them all equally and unconditionally. He even had a special nickname for each and every one of them. Guy made a huge impact on his family because of the love and generosity he shared with them. He was a loving, caring, compassionate and humble man. Despite his illness, he gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. He lived life to the fullest.
