Roy Arthur Price of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the age of 89 years.
Roy is survived by his loving wife Violet and four children, Geoff (Shelley) Price, Brian Price, Colette (Randy) Tremel and Karren (Robert) Neufeld, as well as his grandchildren Benton and Taylor Neufeld, Tyler Tremel, Sonja Price, Brianne Price, Sonni (John) Worne, and Ryan Tarnava who he considered a grandchild, two great-grandchildren Sean and Chloe Worne as well as numerous nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Roy was predeceased by his parents George and Hilda Price, brother George Price, sister-in-law Marie Price and daughter-in-law Teena Price.
Growing up in Lethbridge Roy worked as a rink rat and meter reader for the city before moving on to become a Flight Instructor for the Lethbridge Flying Club in 1959 where he instructed in Lethbridge and surrounding area. Roy was also employed by the ministry of transport to conduct flight testing for 10 years. During his career as an instructor, he graduated many hundreds of students. The most memorable became the first female airline pilot in Canada, Mrs. Rosella Bjornson, who subsequently became the first female to be hired as First Officer in North America on scheduled jet equipment, and the first female to be hired by a commercial airline. Roy's career as an instructor lasted for 42 years logging in excess of 15,000 hours flying in the cockpit. He was also an avid sign writer and artist and created many signs for local businesses and friends. In his retirement he enjoyed tinkering in the yard, woodworking, fishing and camping with his family.
Cremation is entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home. At Roy's request there will be no funeral service.
