May 24, 2025

Date of Service: June 3, 2025

PETER HERMAN VAN HUIGENBOS, of Claresholm, AB, beloved husband of Abigaile van Huigenbos, passed away suddenly during a workplace accident on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the age of 38 years.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his son, Dillon Zayn; daughter, Mallory Anne; his parents, Jan and Ellen van Huigenbos; and his in-laws, Pastor James and Nanette Greendyk. He is also survived by his brothers, Jon (Emily) van Huigenbos and Philip (Sanessa) van Huigenbos; his sister, Marietta (Ian) Breeweg; his brother-in-law, James (Pauline) Greendyk; and sisters-in-law, Maria VandenBrink (Tyler Lothian), Lydia (Maurits) VandenBosch, Gabrielle Greendyk, Esther (Shae) DeKok, and Emilie Greendyk (Joseph Olazagasti). Peter is also lovingly remembered by Oma van Huigenbos, many aunts and uncles in the Netherlands, and 21 precious nieces and nephews.

Peter was predeceased by his beloved infant son, Zayn, in 2016.

Born on March 3, 1987, in Chilliwack, BC, to Jan and Ellen van Huigenbos, Peter was the second of four siblings. From a young age, he was a dedicated worker, always ready with a listening ear and a willingness to help anyone in need.

Peter met his dear wife Abigaile, in August of 2012 and married on August 14, 2015. It was a joy to welcome him to our family as ‘one of the boys’. Pete and Abby made their home in Rosedale, BC, but it didn’t take long for tragedy to come to their home. In March 2016, they had a serious accident that took their unborn infant son, Zayn. The Lord wonderfully spared them for each other, and blessed them with a second son, Dillon in 2018, followed by a tiny sister, Mallory, in 2021.

In August 2022, Pete and Abby moved their little family to an acreage in Claresholm, AB. Pete worked long hours, (as is normal for farming), and Abby made their new house a home. Pete was taken to be with his Lord for reasons only known to Him.

Pete had a huge heart for helping others, and we will miss his quick wit and deep thinking. Pete has left his mark on many of us. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Condolences for Peter will be held at BETHEL FREE REFORMED CHURCH, 317 Eastman Avenue, Monarch, AB, on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at BETHEL FREE REFORMED CHURCH on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jeff Overduin officiating.

Following the Funeral Service, Peter will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.

Both the Funeral and the Graveside services will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Peter’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
