It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather. Peter Theodores DeLauw passed away in Calgary at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Friday, August 14, 2009. He was 79. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lena and his sons Peter (Carmen), and Fred (Tara), and his grandsons Ross, Austin, Nolan, Eric, and Jordan.
Peter was born in Holland in 1929 and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1949. He was the second of nine children of which 2 now remain. He met Lena in Kimberly, BC before moving to Monarch in 1969 with their 2 young sons. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there with family and friends last year. Pete and Lena lived there until this year when they moved to Lethbridge.
Pete was a hard working man who worked as a lumberjack and in saw mills in BC then later had a long career at Consolidated Concrete in Lethbridge. He enjoyed making wooden wagons for his grandsons and other children, building Dutch style windmills with his brother Frank and sharpening knives for his friends at White Lake Colony. He liked listening to accordion music.
He beat cancer twice because of his positive attitude.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 1:00 P.M.
In Lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317-10th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2M7 or donating blood as Peter had benefited from others’ generosity.
