PETER WIPF left us to be with the Lord and his beloved late wife Elizabeth in the early morning hours of October 10, 2012 at the Lakeside Colony. He lived to be 89 years young. The Lord blessed Peter with a large and loving family. Pleased and honored to have shared his life, is his beloved wife Katie Wipf of 28 years. Also his 7 sons and 4 daughters, Peter (Dora), Edward (Elizabeth), Joseph (Judy), Andy (Bertha), and Sarah, all of Lakeside Colony; Minister Paul (Dorothy), Elizabeth (John) of Hillridge Colony; Lena (Paul) of Copperfield Farms; Rebecca (Darius) of North Harlem Colony; David (Lillian), Josh (Clara) of Lethbridge AB; His sisters, Elizabeth (late David) of Armriver Colony; Barbara (late Minister John) of Elkwater; 47 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Peter was born on June 25, 1923 in Menno, SD to the late Paul and Katrina Wipf. He moved to Stirling, AB at age 7 in 1930. When he was 12 years old he moved to Lakeside. In 1943 he was drafted to the Kananaskis Camp in BC and served as a CO (Conscientious Objector) in the World War Two. In 1945, after two years in camp Peter came home and married his loving late wife Elizabeth Wipf of 37 years. Peter was elected German school teacher and gardener in 1956 and held this position for 18 years. He became field boss on January 6, 1975. In 1982 he lost his wife Elizabeth to Cancer. In 1984 GOD blessed Peter with another marriage to Katie Stahl. After a year he was elected the financial boss of Lakeside Colony, he retired in 2000 after 15 years. Grandpa spent the rest of his days serving the LORD in multiple ways. Every morning when passing by his house we could hear him singing his Morgen Lieder (morning songs) with grandma. His sense of humour was contagious, sometimes just by the things he would say. Grandpa often shared with us the memory of his time in the Kananaskis Camp. He remembered every one of his comrades by name. In his later years grandpa was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, which affected his eyesight. Even though he couldn’t see very well , he never complained, instead he sang, every single song that popped into his head. His patience was never-ending, he looked at everything with a positive attitude. While he still could, grandpa cherished the times when his sons came and took him for rides to check the fields or just go around the block. The last couple months of his life Peter required extra care, it was lovingly provided by his wife and daughters. Caring for grandpa was not a burden, it gave us more time to spend with him. We will all miss you very much grandpa. Preceding him in death was his wife Elizabeth, his parents: Paul and Katrina Wipf, four brothers: Paul, David, Jacob and Joseph; three sisters: Kathrina, Susanna, and Anna; two great-grandchildren: Wade and Wendy. Funeral Services will be held at the LAKESIDE HUTTERIAN BRETHERN CHURCH on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. with interment to follow in the Lakeside Colony Cemetery.
