PETER BEREKOFF

‘No power in the sky above or in the earth below - indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ Romans 8:39 It is with sadness but great peace that we bid our dear Husband, Father, Grandfather & Great Grandfather farewell until we meet again. Peter Berekoff passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on May 16, 2009 after a lengthy battle with illness. Peter is survived by his loving wife: Lucille (Miller) Berekoff; his daughters: Molly Ann Barkley & family of Vancouver, B.C.; Nina (Bruce) Rockwell of Amherst, Nova Scotia; and son: Tom (Bev) Berekoff & family of Edmonton, AB.; sister: Mary (John) Popoff of Wadena Sask.; brother: Bill (Mary) Berekoff of Edmonton, AB. Peter will also be dearly missed by Lucille’s children: Larry (Katherine) Canfield & family of Stirling, AB.; Lynne (Stu) Orr & family of Edmonton, AB.; Patricia (Don) Schielke & family of Surprize, Arizona; David Canfield & family of West Bank, B.C.; Bruce Canfield of Coalhurst, AB. and Yvonne (Hal) Wakelin & family of Lethbridge, AB. Peter is also survived by granddaughters Monica (Bob) Gergley of Lethbridge; Natasha (Charles) Pittman & family of Warner, AB. as well as numerous other grandchildren & great grandchildren. Peter was predeceased by his first wife Pauline Berekoff; his daughter Elaine Neil; and his parents: John & Mary. Peter was born June 9, 1927 at Taghum, B.C. Peter enjoyed working and was not afraid of hard work. Peter worked for the department of Hwys. in B.C in the Kaslo/Nelson area for a time and then in the Copper mines until they closed. Peter then moved his young family to the Hardieville/Lethbridge area where he obtained employment with the Lethbridge Brewery for 32 years until it closed and he began his retirement. As a young man Peter was a member of the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry during the second world war. Peter and Lucille would have celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this year on June 12, 2009. Peter was a devout, loving and generous husband to Lucille. Peter enjoyed fishing, spending many hours at the fishing holes in southern Alberta. He also loved to read and immensely enjoyed his western novels. Peter was an avid crib player and while his and Lucille’s health allowed they were active members of the Westminister Crib Club, the Sunny South Sam R.V. Travel Club and the Antique Car Club. Peter & Lucille are members of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Coaldale and enjoyed the inclusiveness and fellowship of the church family there. A Memorial Services will be held on Thursday May 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Peter Lurvey officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the kidney foundation, Kidney Foundation of Canada, 438-10 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1H 2C7.
