MERCEDES PENNINGTON, beloved wife of the late Clarence Pennington, passed away at the Chinook Region al Hospital on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the age of 95 years.

She is survived by her nephew Terry Credico of Lethbridge, niece Lori (Ian) Fraser of Calgary, nephew Brad (Bev) Sweda of Rochester, MI, daughter-in-law Sylvia Pennington of Vancouver, brother Gerry (Ann) Sweda, brother-in-law Roy (Helen) Pennington of Lethbridge and sister-in-law Dorothy (George-deceased) Davidson of Lethbridge. She is also survived by nieces and nephews in Alberta and Margo, Gary (Karen), Randy (Lisa) and Matthew Slater in B.C.

Mercedes was predeceased by her son Bob Pennington, sister Frances (Victor) Credico and cherished companion Steve Slater.

Mercedes was born and raised in Lethbridge, going to school at St. Basil's Catholic School and met and married Clarence shortly thereafter. Their son Bob was born on February 3, 1941 and shortly thereafter moved to Calgary for Job opportunities, ultimately ending up in Vancouver. Clarence and Mercedes spent the majority of their working lives in Vancouver but moved back to Lethbridge to retire in 1981. For the next several years, Mercedes and Clarence spent a great deal of time camping, fishing, golfing and bowling, up until experiencing her husband's passing in 1998 and very unfortunately, her sons passing in 2000. Afterwards, Mercedes could commonly be found with her cousin Florence enjoying golfing, bowling and cards. In 2007, Mercedes moved to Vancouver and spent seven happy years with her companion Steve. Following Steve's passing in 2014, Mercedes relocated to Lethbridge and she resided there until her passing. Mercedes will always be remembered as a prim and proper lady, a "little sweetie".

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Spring of 2018.

In memory of Mercedes and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, #507, 740 - 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 0N9 or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #220, 6223 - 2 Street S.E., Calgary, AB, T2H 1J5.
