Naato’kyaawayakiaa lived fulfilling the traditional roles and etiquettes of the traditional Niistitapii women. She was influenced and educated by surrounding herself with relatives who practiced and promoted the Niistitapii way of life. Her entire mindset was respecting and believing what sources of life creator gave us emphasizing family relationships, working hard and supporting family and community and maintaining respect for herself.
Pauline’s mother, Julia White Quills, passed away in 1955 when Pauline was still an infant, leaving her without the chance to ever know her mother. Pauline later attended St. Paul’s Residential School. She was raised by her uncle Peter Big Nose and Elizabeth Flying About, whom she took as her parents, along with Florence Red Crow and Leonard Old Shoes, whom she regarded as her siblings. Pauline was also blessed with love and care from Willie Scraping White and Mike Yellow Bull, whom she took as her uncles. She had a gentle & loving spirit and soft-spoken person. She loved her children and her nieces and nephews very much. Pauline met her husband Roy Sr. in 1965 and had her first born in 1966. She then married her love of her life in 1969. Growing up without the presence of a mother she longs for. And later in years Pauline reached out to her aunt Bernadette, one of the last living siblings amongst Paul and Fanny White Quills children. Pauline lovingly told Bernadette that she was going to take her on as a mother. From that moment forward Pauline’s devotion never waived. She checked on her often; she would bring her food and thoughtful gifts and make sure she was cared for. They would share phone calls just to hear her voice. Their phone calls became a lifeline, filled with love, concern and shared moments that keep them closely connected. Pauline’s biological parents were Fred Weasel Fat Sr. and Julia White Quills.
Pauline worked very hard for her children. Pauline’s work history includes 24 years of services to the Blood Indian Hospital as a custodian from 1975 to closing in 1999. After working with BIH she worked with Blood Tribe Continuing Care from then on, she retired to care for her son Rudy and became an elder for Kainai Children Services.
In 1998 to 2003 Pauline and her late husband Roy joined the Sii’kii moh tahs/Blackhorse Horn Society with their holy partner Gilbert Crow Chief and they also owned a stand-up headdress. Pauline would always attend Keith Chief Moon’s Piercing Sundance every summer and was gifted with love.
