PATRICK LEROY MORNINGSTAR, beloved husband of Irma Morningstar of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Michaels Hospital, Palliative Care Unit on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the age of 70 years. Besides his loving wife Irma, he is the loving father of Mark (Laurie) and Elaine of Calgary. “Opa” is also survived by his grandsons Tyson, Luke and Spencer. Patrick ‘Pat’ was born on December 28, 1938 at Welland, Ontario. After high school he worked a few years in the construction industry, then enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he spent 27 years. Highlights of his career included a tour of duty with the NATO forces in Germany and a six month stint with the Centennial Headquarters in Ottawa in 1967. He was proud of an award for Outstanding Service to the community that he received in Germany in 1977 for extensive work with minor hockey and baseball organizations. He enjoyed working with young people, to help improve their confidence and athletic abilities. Pat was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, The Royal Canadian Legion, Federal Superannuates National Association and the RCASC Association (Western). He was a member of the original committee that met to establish a Soup Kitchen in Lethbridge. Pat loved baseball, movies, live theatre, woodworking, long walks, camping and cycling. He studied family genealogy for many years and was a descendent of a Pennsylvania German, who was a Loyalist and was one of the earliest settlers in Willoughby Township, Niagra District, Upper Canada. Over the years, Pat did writing for several volunteer organizations, and received several awards for this as well as for his involvement with minor hockey and baseball. A Memorial Celebration will be held at the GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2406 - 11 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 10:00AM with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating.
