July 25, 1945

October 31, 2025

Date of Service: November 6, 2025

It is with deep sadness we announce that on October 31, 2025 Patrick (Pat) Johnston, loving and devoted husband of 56 years to his ‘Sweet Marie’, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit. He was born on July 25, 1945 in Galahad, Alberta to his parents Ralph & Clara Johnston.

In addition to his cherished wife, he is survived by his number one daughter, Karla ‘Kar’ (Geoff), and his precious grandsons Liam and Nolan; and his youngest daughter, Michelle (Scott) aka Chelle/Chelley, Mitch/Mitchy, and his treasured grandsons Haisley, Ewan and Calum. His grandsons provided great joy to Pat, including the many hours spent at the rink watching their hockey games. Pat is also survived by his sisters Fran and Patricia; brothers Terry and Brian; sister-in-law Leslie; and sisters-in-law Carol (Victor) and May (David), along with many nieces and nephews that he held close to his heart.

He is predeceased by his parents; dear sister Sylvia and brother-in-law Roger D’Hulster, niece Wendy and nephew Laurie; sister Marlene and brother-in-law Louis Frebrowski; his beloved younger brother David; brothers-in law David Baier and Paul Kraychy – his forever informative and fun-loving pal; and dear friend & brother-in-law Rene Williams.

Pat was dedicated to his career with Kirk’s Tire where he thrived for 27 years in a family owned and operated business that he always held in the highest regard, and that brought him many happy memories that he treasured during his time there, as well as in his retirement. He valued and truly loved his job, and spending time with those he worked with, especially Gary, Kevin and Brad.

In following with his faith, he dedicated his life through servant leadership to many community projects, boards and committees, including Southern Alberta Bingo Association (SABA), Lethbridge Community Board, Martha House, and was honored to serve for 37 years with the Knights of Columbus Council #5726, which brought on his many years of service and laughter with his fellow Knights at Camp Columbus.

He also leaves behind a brotherhood of Knights who we thank for your many years of memories created with him, and the visits that you made in recent weeks to keep the spirit of that friendship alive, especially John Henderson and Al Laronde.

Pat loved his countless camping excursions with his wife, family and many friends, sharing endless good times around the fire, and also building many memories in Fairmont, BC. Pat greatly enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family and close friends, and treasured his early family life with all the neighbors on Henderson Lake Blvd., Friday nights at the KC clubhouse with Bert & Susan, John & Faye, Maurice & Pauline, Ben & Marilyn (and too many others to mention), and many visits with childhood friends Mike (Miriam), and Bruce (Mary).

Pat felt very blessed for the life that he lived and the family and friends that he had. We find comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the example he set in his loving marriage, rich family life, many treasured friendships, as well as his beloved work and community involvement.
