Mr. Alexander Thomas Patrick, much loved father of Donette passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday September 20, 2013 at the age of 87. Alex is survived by his loving daughter Donette (Gary) Groves of Diamond City, AB and his grandchildren: Ethan, Carlin, Madisen and Donovan Groves as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Anne, 3 brothers and 6 sisters. Alexander was born on the family farm in Lancer Sask. December 14, 1925. He was the youngest of 10 children, grew up during the Great Depression, and has seen more changes in his life than most of us ever will. He rode his horse to the one room school house, and in the winter would pick up the teacher and take her to school by horse and sleigh. He actually drove a Model A car, harvested with a threshing machine, milked a cow and farmed with a horse and plow. In 1953 he married his sweetheart, Anne Gross, and they farmed in Saskatchewan until 1978. When they moved off the family farm, they became permanent residents in Swift Current, Saskatchewan where they raised their only daughter Donette. In 1980, the family moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta. For thirty years, Mom and Dad had a wonderful time, garage saling, and going to auction sales collecting a wide range of antiques, refinishing and refurbishing treasures of yesteryear, and making some wonderful friends along the way. Dad, always said it was the best 30 years of their lives. When Moms health began to fail they moved to Lethbridge in 2007, to be close to their grandchildren. After Moms passing in 2010, Dad moved into a supportive living situation, and made many new friends.. Dad was a sweet spirit, always putting others before himself. He had a wonderful smile and a hearty laugh. But most of all he knew better than anyone that each day was a gift, and felt blessed to be a part of it. A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Nigel Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, PO Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB., T1J 4K7, or to Blue Bronna Wilderness Camp, Box 65 Longview, AB T0L 1H0.
