OTTO SCHMIDT, born in Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan on February 5, 1930, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, August 21, 2009 at the age of 79 years.
Otto was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Amelia, in 2005 and his sister Elsie and brother Harold.
He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his children Alexandra (Bernard) Revak, Brenda (Gerry) Paul and Barry (Jocelyn) Schmidt; 6 grandchildren, Gail, Grant (Jacquie), Keith, Jennifer, Kirk (Robyn), Karissa, 4 great grandchildren, Jordan, Jessica, Whitney and Haley. He is also survived by his brothers Art (Bernice) and Marvin, and sisters Alice, Freda (Jerry) and Delores (Jim), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Otto left his home on the farm at the age of 16, moving to Maple Creek where he began what was to be a lengthy career as a baker. Over the years he worked in Lethbridge at the National Bakery, Marquis, Value Village, Erikson’s Fine Foods and Bakery and Safeway, as well as owning “Otto’s Bakery” in Fort Macleod.
After retiring in 1994, he and Amelia were able to travel more extensively, especially by car and he never tired of driving. Otto also enjoyed boating, country music, dancing, cribbage and spending time with family.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a Visitation and a Video Tribute at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011-4 Ave. South, Lethbridge, on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
