Mr. Robert Okart, beloved husband of the late Dorothea Okart, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the age of 86. Robert is survived by his daughters, Monika (Dennis) Walshe of Cranbrook, B.C., Cindy (Louis) Brandsma of Lethbridge, Carolynn Rempel of Carmangay and Robby (Garth) Savilow of Calgary, along with 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his wife Dorothea “Doris”, his parents Fred and Maria Hust and granddaughter Lindsay Brandsma. Robert and Doris were married December 11, 1946 in Hanover, Germany. They immigrated to Canada in 1954 and resided in Coaldale. Robert and Doris spent 63 happy years together, and after Doris’ passing in March of 2010, Robert spoke often of the memories they shared together, and missed her terribly. Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was faithful to his family, spending time with them whenever he could. He loved visits from his great-grandchildren, spoiling them with ice cream and cookies. Robert had a love for the outdoors, was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed camping and fishing with Doris, his children and grandchildren. He worked hard as a carpenter and concrete worker, and always kept busy with projects in his garage, or working in his garden which he took great pride in. Robert will be remembered for his sense of humour, strong will, and his “tell it like it is” personality. His many stories, his quiet faith, and his love for his family will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Dr. Shukkoor, Linda RN, and all the nurses on unit 4B, for the compassionate care they gave to Robert and his family. A Funeral Service will be held at REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2006 - 20th Street Coaldale, AB, on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Mr. Folker Stanke officiating.
