Obbagy, Sharon Rose

Sharon Rose Obbagy, beloved wife of Les, and loving mother of Sheree, passed away December 7, at the age of 70, after a courageous and arduous battle with ALS & FTD.

Born on March 31st, 1945 to Verda & Harold Farries. She grew up in Del Bonita, with one older brother Lyle and five younger siblings; Duane, Lynn, Lowell, Rennaye and Shannon.

After meeting in 1963, she married Leslie Obbagy in June 1965, and they shared 52 incredible years. In 1971, they were blessed with their daughter Sheree. Sheree and Les were her total life and focus, as were all of her family and friends. Their family farm/ranch south-west of Milk River, was filled with good laughs, hard work, loving memories and life along the Milk River Ridge had many savoured prairie sunsets, especially at harvest. This lifestyle suited her and brought joy to Sharon, whether it was spring calves, flourishing gardens, or harvesting the fall fields. All the farm animals felt Sharon's love, especially her kitties (Shy & Yoho) and her Great hairy Pyrenees, Gibson. Les and Sharon appreciated the serenity of their home and farm.

The little things always meant a great deal to her. You might have felt you did something small, but it made a monumental difference to her, and was deeply appreciated. Big heart, warm smile, generous hugs and a genuine love for all describes Sharon best. She enjoyed camping and travelling to such places as the Philippines, Dominican Republic, United States and across Canada. Trips were also made to numerous destinations due to their passion of antiquing.

Sharon excelled at everything she put her energy into, anything she took part in felt her zest for life. Whether it be helping others, cooking, baking, sewing, flowers and vegetable gardening, her talents are far too many to list. She had a special love for her parents, and family were very important to her. Lots of visits, and fun times not only at the farm, but Great Falls, Big Fork, Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie and the yearly family reunions at different parks were dear to her heart.

Spending time with her family and friends was favoured, music was food for her soul and having Les play his guitar for her was treasured time. Being in nature rejuvenated Sharon. Canoeing, bird watching, picking fruit from orchards (plus the endless canning), boating, fishing, camping, road tripping to Waterton with Sheree, and the days spent in Yoho, with the nights at their Interpretive Programs & campfire suppers hold very special memories for their family.

Sharon's life drastically changed in the summer of 2014 when her ailment was diagnosed as ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) plus FTD. Her love for animals was then directed to the resident bunny, Dale, at the Milk River Long Term Care where she resided, and her hobbies became colouring and doing puzzles. Her days were long, yet accompanied by Les and Sheree. Les never missed spending a day with his beloved wife. Sharon loved being read to by Sheree and watching DVD's together, and her favourite Calgary Flames hockey team, along with cowboy movies and antique shows.

Sharon was gracious and strong throughout her struggles, never knowing what each day might bring. She is their heroic guardian angel. Even when she could no longer move, or speak, Sharon could still express her love and strong energetic presence. Her faith and love in the Lord kept us all going through the difficult times. Sincere gratitude to each and every one of you who reached out to her, and assisted her. The family, friends, staff, doctors and volunteers all deserve a hug of thanks and Sharon would have been handing them out nonstop if she had been able. She ensured everyone got a hug and a smile, and she would be earnestly telling each one of you, "Thank you so much, and God bless you!!!"

Sharon truly appreciated flowers, donated to all causes & was supported greatly by the ALS Society, so you may donate as you wish.
